Cruising along the Hudson is one of the things we look forward to every spring. The view of the infamous NYC skyline and the tranquility of sailing is an experience that never gets old. A few weeks ago we upgraded our usual cruise, with a wine and cheese pairing class aboard Classic Harbor Line‘s Manhattan II. This particular cruise is about 2 hours long and features wines from all over the world paired with artisan cheeses all presented by Wendy Crispell, a certified wine and cheese educator.

Channel Your Inner Child at Club Getaway

by xoJohn

Camp isn’t just for tweens and teens anymore. Club Getaway is a fairly new vacation alternative for kids and adults (Yes adults!) looking to enjoy nature and the thrill of summer camp. The club experience combines camp themed activities with grown-up perks like booze and nightlife. We had the immense pleasure of spending the Summer season’s inaugural weekend at the expansive resort in Connecticut. The weekend of our visit was for the first ever Kirill’s Wet Hot American Weekend, hosted by Kirill Bichutsky. Though Kirill’s reputation is that of an insane party animal, this particular weekend was more about shared experiences and less about his famous “champagne facial” photoshoots. The point of the weekend was to push adult worries to the side and enjoy some fun carefree activities.

The season of good weather is coming to a close for New Yorkers. Soon we’ll be trading our flip flops for boots and complaining about the bracing cold. Luckily there are a few weeks of decent weather left to take advantage of. Over the next few weeks, you can make the most of the time we have left by cruising down the picturesque Hudson River Valley with Classic Harbor Line. We took a relaxing cruise up the Hudson River with Classic Harbor Line for their inaugural sail. We were on their chic and retro Manhattan Yacht. This Great Gatsby inspired vessel took us for a long leisurely trip from Manhattan to Poughkeepsie, NY. The voyage is a 4.5-hour excursion straight to Upstate NY, followed by a 3-hour self-guided tour of Poughkeepsie and then a sunset dinner cruise.

We stopped the exclusive launch event for Carnival Cruise Line’s newest and much anticipated ship ever, Carnival Vista. It’s set to debut in spring 2016. This innovative ship is designed to connect guests to the ocean with sweeping views and plenty to do both outdoors and in.

????

Let’s get to why this cruise is innovative:

Outdoor Fun

The SkyRide is a breakthrough suspended open-air cycling experience. This will the cruise industry’s first pedal-powered open-air aerial attraction. Adventurous riders can climb aboard hanging recumbent-like bikes to cycle their way around the 800-foot suspended track with panoramic views from 150 feet above the sea. Nearby will be SkyCourse, an exhilarating suspended ropes course. Both are part of the expanded outdoor activity park that also includes a new indoor sports hangout, The Clubhouse at SportSquare¸ featuring mini-bowling, ping-pong, arcade basketball, sports video gaming and more.

The WaterWorks water park in the fleet, kids and kids at heart will find a thrilling array of splash-tastic fun including Kaleid-O-Slide, the line’s first-ever water tube attraction. Riders will hop on inflatable one or two-person rafts taking them on a fun-filled 455-foot adventure of exhilarating twists and turns with stunning kaleidoscopic visual effects.

As a movie goer, I was excited to hear about Carnivals partnership with IMAX to bring the world’s most immersive cinematic experience to sea with the first-ever IMAX Theatre on a ship. Guests will take in the latest Hollywood blockbusters, IMAX classics and IMAX documentary content on a screen that’s three decks high. Next door at the Thrill Theater, moviegoers can enjoy a multi-dimensional special effects experience. Both are part of the Carnival Multiplex, a first at sea for film fans, complete with concession stand offering popcorn and movie snacks. The Warehouse, featuring a variety of video and arcade games, is located adjacent to the Carnival Multiplex.

I love New York but every now and then I need to get away from the city and enjoy a little slice of paradise.  With any luck, I’ll get to visit Palace Resorts in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. About a week ago we attended the launch party for the spectacular resort via a cocktail reception at Arena just off of time square.  The event introduced media, and industry insiders to the fabulous new vacation spot. Guests enjoyed complimentary cocktails and passing appetizers while hearing about the grande project from the key players behind the scenes. Moon Palace Jamaica Grande is the first property owned by Palace resorts on the island. When thinking of places for their next project Jamaica stood out as the go-to destination. Its culture, history and natural beauty stood out to investors as the perfect place for a new resort.
