We had the pleasure of attending the NAMM Summer Show, held at the Music City Center July 15-16 in Nashville, Tennessee, and dedicated exclusively to the ideal of belief in music with its tagline “Believe in Music.” The NAMM Show provides a hub for music industry services and products, with the first look at trends shaping the future of the music business industry. The NAMM Summer Show also offered a special time to reconnect coming out of the pandemic with a range of large and smaller-scale music instrument providers, artists, and more, with the larger annual NAMM Show resuming in January in its usual home, Anaheim, California.

The average height and size of an American woman is 5 foot 4, size 16. The average size of a model is under 6 in missy, 10 in plus and both are expected to exceed 5’8 in height. This leaves a staggering disparity in how the average woman compares to her print and digital counterparts. Essentially shorter curvier women are the norm and yet vastly underrepresented. Though they make up the majority, this group is relatively unseen. Visual representation by brands, networks, and organizations opt for taller women to showcase their products or represent brands. In their efforts to celebrate their actual consumers, some brands have steered away from the size 10 and employed larger models like Tess Holliday and Simone Mariposa.

The Tribeca Film Festival has begun and this year John Legend and Sara Bareilles made an appearance in “Tribeca Talks: Storytellers” where Sara interviewed/discussed with John about his life and career. Starting off Sara asked John about how music came into his life as a child. John started learning to play the piano when he was five and was actively involved in music at church. It wasn’t till he was older that he began to listen to genres other than Gospel and Contemporary Christian music because that was all that was played in his house. His parents divorced when he was young and from there he was able to rebel a bit and start listening to other genres.

On Wednesday, the group D.O.G (Dirty Old Gangsters) released their music video for “NOT TONIGHT BRO” at one of New York City’s most popular bars, Goldbar. D.O.G is an NYC based guitar driven, have a good time, in your face hard rock band, fusing elements of Punk, Glam, and Classic Rock, creating a familiar, fun “we don’t take ourselves too seriously” sound.

A Conversation with Nelson Estevez

by xoJohn

Actor Nelson Estevez is a native New Yorker who can be seen playing Casey in Tyler Perry’s latest film, Acrimony. His talents expand beyond acting, as a mixed martial artist and athlete. Estevez considers both mental and physical training to be a key factor in preparing for a role. He says he trains to be an actor the same way athletes train to be in the Olympics, with conscious dedication and conditioning to all aspects of his life. What’s even more impressive is how he uses his mixed martial arts training to choreograph fight scenes. Do we have a future action star among us? From looking at his demo reel, we think so. We were happy to speak with the actor about his career, life, and Hollywood.
