Talbots Holiday 2011

by Melissa Davis

When I walked into the Talbots Holiday 2011 preview I was bombarded with sparkle, but in a good way. Personally Talbots is not my go to thought when it comes to fashion. It is just not my crowd. Well fancy my surprise when I loved so many of their holiday pieces!

Cache is a brand that is synonymous with Malls in America. Usually, that would be a “bad” thing when it comes to fashion and true style. However, I was impressed by a few pieces from their Holiday 2011 & Resort 2012 collections. Their overarching design concept is “Golden Age”. They have included varying types of gold embellishments throughout the line. Some miss the mark but others are definitely on point.
A few standout pieces include a trench with pleather and studs. It won’t be out until 12/26 so you’ll have to lust over it a bit longer and ask for Cache gift cards as a holiday gift.

Allegri Fall 2011

by Melissa Davis

Italian outerwear brand Allegri made its New York debut with a spectacular visual presentation at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. This was an exclusive show that was presented in the courtyard as opposed to on the runway. The setup was made extra special as the courtyard was decorated with what seemed like floating umbrellas overhead.

Dennis Basso Autumn/Winter 2011

by Melissa Davis

I am not necessarily against fur and I am not necessarily for it either. That may sound crazy for someone covering the Dennis Basso Autumn/Winter 2011. Basso is, after all, known primarily for his furs. Thankfully, I was able to focus on the subsidiary parts of his collection, the knits. The knits were amazing, beautiful and covetous.

Tadashi Shoji Spring 2011

As a fan of renaissance artwork and romanticism viewing Tadashi Shoji‘s presentation during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week made me long for the times I spent at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

Monique Lhuillier Spring 2011

by Melissa Davis

I am supposing that since Mercedes Benz Fashion Week was moved to Lincoln Center this season the shoes should be all about theater. Walking into the Duckie Brown Spring 2011 show was slightly unnerving as only one side of risers were being utilized. The opposing side was completely empty. This is odd because what folks talk about most during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is who has seats to which show. It was all theater.
