I am not necessarily against fur and I am not necessarily for it either. That may sound crazy for someone covering the Dennis Basso Autumn/Winter 2011. Basso is, after all, known primarily for his furs. Thankfully, I was able to focus on the subsidiary parts of his collection, the knits. The knits were amazing, beautiful and covetous.I really fell in love with the knitted knee length dresses underneath the large fur coats. The intricate detailing on the cable knit “cafe au lait” colored dress made me gasp. The turtleneck trapeze dresses were also very wearable and can compliment any accessory. I’m all about classic style so those pieces really spoke to me. It is the perfect “blank slate.”
As for the fur, I thought the jackets were beautiful but a bit too extravagant for my tastes. You have to be a certain type of person to walk around with a huge fur on. A certain “Andre Leon Talley” type of personality, so to speak. The purses with fur trim were fashionable and nothing like I’ve seen before so Basso definitely scores high points on that from me. I admit I kind of loved the knee length fur skirt as well. I can just imagine wearing it to any event and getting compliment after compliment. After All isn’t that what we all want, to be recognized for our fashion sense.
