If all you know of Hooters is tight t-shirts and orange hotpants you are doing your taste buds a grave injustice. From shareable appetizers to decadent desserts you can satisfy your comfort food cravings here. The first Hooters opened over 30 years ago and since then over 400 locations have been opened across the globe. We visited their New York City location on 33rd Street for a meal and a few drinks. This location is equipped with two dining rooms, a small gift shop and several mounted flat screen TVs. The screens are positioned to allow a good view of the game from any seat in the house. We’ve enjoyed plenty of meals at Hooters over the years but we rarely stray from the usual wings and fries. For our visit, however, we indulged our curiosity and had some lesser-known dishes.
Buffalo Shrimp
You can’t go wrong with Jumbo Shrimp and these were fried to perfection and tossed with spicy buffalo sauce. The shrimp were juicy and succulent, portioned to share. The Shrimp comes with your choice of dipping sauce. To add some sweetness we recommend the blue cheese but you can never go wrong with creamy ranch.
Lotsa Tots
Crispy Tater Tots topped with gooey melted cheese, crumbled bacon, and sour cream is the ultimate comfort food. Salty, creamy and cheesy these little tots are irresistible.
Sweet Thai Chili and Daytona Wings
You can’t visit Hooters and not have wings. Whether original or naked (without breading) their wings are a crowd pleaser. Two of the newest sauces are the Sweet Thai Chili and Daytona. We ordered the naked wings with the Sweet Thai Chili sauce. The sauce is sweet with a spicy kick. The Daytona Wings are grilled then coated in a sweet tangy Daytona sauce.
Bacon Cheeseburger
If wings aren’t your thing Hooters also has several sandwiches including various burgers and chicken sandwiches.
Fish Tacos
Hooters also have a surprising assortment of seafood options including these tasty Fish Tacos. The tacos are offered grilled or fried and arrive topped with shredded cabbage slaw and a creamy sauce. This was one of the best bites of the night, we highly recommend giving these a try. Our grilled and crispy tacos were cooked to perfection. These are also a great starter option.
Rip Roarin’ Rum Runner and Bloody Mary
We love a good rum-based cocktail and this Rum Runner was truly satisfying. For a more fruity flavor, we recommend the Hootercane, Hooter’s version of a classic hurricane featuring Captain Morgan and Meyer’s Original Dark Rum. A great way to wash down all of the yumminess that Hooters has to offer.
In addition to its Lunch and Dinner service, Hooters now has Brunch. For just a limited time you can add Hooters to your weekend brunch plans. The new service was added this year and includes the same friendly service and an assortment of new brunch menu items. The new items include several biscuit sandwiches, chicken topped waffles, and a massive Bloody Mary with chicken and bacon. The price of the “all you can responsibly drink” for two hours is $24.99 with the purchase of one entrée.
The Hooter’s logo is as familiar as the golden arches. Though known mainly for its beautiful waitstaff, Hooters is also a great place to enjoy a sporting event or good food with friends.
