The New York City Mission Society has been on the frontlines of the war on poverty for more than 200 years. The organization’s portfolio of educational, workforce development, cultural enrichment, and community-building programs make a positive, long-term impact on the City’s most underserved communities. Each year, they serve more than 12,000 children and families throughout New York City with programs, supportive services, and community events. On April 5th, more than 340 people attended the New York City Mission Society’s annual Champions for Children Gala at the Mandarin Oriental in Columbus Circle. The gala raised over half million dollars. Co-chaired by Jean Shafiroff and Katrina Peebles, the benefit honored legendary actress and singer Diahann Carroll and entrepreneur Don Peebles, as well as recognized lifetime members of the Mission Society’s Board of Directors.

Blogging My Way Through New York City

by xoJohn

This post is sponsored by smartwater.

How do you normally start your day? For me, it all depends on the day. For instance, Mondays I may roll out of bed a little upset because the reality of the weekend being over sets in. Luckily I have my favorite quote as a pick me up. The most exciting part about blogging is the fact that we can bring you content from pretty much anywhere in the world. In recent weeks, I found myself drafting up articles via my smartphone while riding the subway. It’s not the most ideal setting but in order to distract me from the constant hustle and bustle of New York City commuters, it works.

Heineken Red Star Access Takes New York City

by xoJohn

Over the weekend we ventured out to Basketball City, Pier 36 in New York City for Heineken Red Star Access tour. The evening was hosted by comedian Affion Crockett andincluded performances by popular hip hop artists Wiz Khalifa and French Montana.

The venue was decked out in Heineken’s signature green color, along with several bars where guests could order their favorite Heineken beverages (we enjoyed the Heineken Light), and a game zone featuring video games and sports activities. We personally enjoyed the audio mixing zone powered by the djay app, Algoriddim.
