Overall: A chic and surprisingly casual steakhouse, with a welcoming staff and lively atmosphere. It is the quintessential spot for a date night or family outing.
Tis the season for comfort food, and nothing says comfort quite like a succulent cut of meat and a decadent side or two. Tudor City Steakhouse offers a sumptuous menu of homestyle comfort food presented beautifully in an elegant atmosphere. Named for the historical apartment complex where it is located, this secluded eatery is nestled in the middle of a quiet street, just a few blocks from Grand Central Station. The door is rustic and reminiscent of a barn, but inside is warm and sophisticated with bright white tablecloths, rich woods, and metal accents. The menu features a mix of familiar steakhouse fare with an eclectic mix of seafood options and Latin American flavors.
The Feast
Mixed Seafood Ceviche
The Ceviche came highly recommended and for good reason, it’s delicious. This unique Peruvian interpretation of the classic seafood treat features Mussels, Clams, Calamari, and Shrimp in squid ink with citrus and a drizzle of Huancaina sauce.
Baked Clams
After the cold Ceviche, we enjoyed a dish of buttery baked Clams. The clams have a crispy breadcrumb crust and are coated with an addictive butter lemon sauce. The sauce added a zesty citrus flavor with a smooth buttery finish.
Brook Trout
The Brook Trout Fish was simply prepared with a crisp skin and tender flesh. This Fish is served with a fragrant lemon butter sauce. The sauce was similar to the sauce served with the clams but not the same. For the fish, the sauce was much lighter and had a much stronger citrus flavor.
Mac & Cheese
Like most steakhouses sides are ordered a la carte. We chose to have the trout served with a decadent Mac and Cheese and sauteed spinach. The Mac and Cheese was tasty but surprisingly light. It left us feeling satisfied but not overwhelmed by cheese and butter.
Spinach
The sauteed Spinach was savory and well seasoned. The green vegetable helped to cut some of the richness from the Mac and Cheese. The spinach leaves were sautéed but maintained a crisp freshness and an abundance of flavor.
Veal Porterhouse
Looking over the steak menu we discovered a cut of meat we rarely see, the Veal Porterhouse. The Porterhouse is one of the more popular cuts of beef and as such one of the most prized cuts of Veal. Its shape is similar to a T-bone steak with a long bone running down the center. The meat was exquisite, tender, meaty, and leaner than we expected. Since we were sharing the dish the kitchen cut the veal in half. As a result, our photos depict a half portion of the meat which is more than enough for two to share. We recommend pairing this with the creamy mashed potatoes and the peppercorn sauce.
Cheesecake
We ended our meal with a slice of creamy berry Cheesecake. The Cheesecake is served with a mixture of fresh berries that added a satisfying texture and balance to the sweet cheesecake.
