The year is 2077 60 years after the great war of 2017. The war pitted mankind against an alien race hell-bent on taking over the planet. Jack (Tom Cruise) is a veteran left on the planet to drain its resources for the good of humanity. With limited resources and a beautiful companion, Jack fights relentlessly to protect his domain. Despite the hope of leaving the Earth soon and rejoining society on a new planet, Jack can’t shake the feeling that leaving Earth is a death sentence. His suspicions are confirmed when he encounters Beech (Morgan Freeman) a man with all the answers. Though Jack is plagued by doubt he may not be ready to handle the ultimate truth.
This beautifully shot epic takes the viewer on a non-stop journey into a war-torn Earth. Monuments are toppled and the surface a mess of charred rubble and artifacts. This visually stunning film is filled with amazing graphics and landscapes.
Though there are a few battle scenes the violence is minimal. There is a small amount of modest nudity and sexual suggestion but it is not much more than cable television. Children can attend this movie but be advised much of the plot features elements that may be difficult to explain and the visuals may not be enough to keep kids under 13 entertained. You will either love this film or hate it completely there is no in between. No matter how you may feel about the movie make sure you see it with someone who loves to discuss and debate. In the tradition of movies like Inception, the confusing plot twists will give moviegoers much to talk about long after the last of the credits have rolled.
