Fine Dining and Exquisite Taste

Restaurant Review: Mirch Masala

by Desha Winborne

Location: 95 MacDougal Street

Cuisine: Indian

Items: 2 appetizers, 2 Tandoori plates, 2 curries, 1 bread, 1 dessert

Best Dish: Indian food is easy to get in NY but good Naan isn’t and the naan here is excellent. It is fresh and served warm. You must also help yourself to any of the curries the spice mix used is all flavor without the tongue blasting heat you would expect from Indian food.

Overall: Great food and friendly atmosphere

District Tap House Has A New Menu

by Desha Winborne

The District Tap House has been a garment center favorite since opening in January of this year. The space has recently undergone some great new changes including a menu of carefully selected craft cocktails and delicious new dishes.  We stopped by District Tap House where we had the privilege of tasting a few of their best drinks and tasty edibles, and to also meet the team behind the updated menu. Once we entered we were ushered to a private bar area in the rear by the bubbly hostess. The rear space was equipped with a private bar and two friendly bartenders serving up some of the best cocktails in the city.

One of the unique new additions to the Tap House menu is its cocktail’s on tap.  Just as beer lovers can enjoy a cool refreshing beverage straight from a tap cocktail lovers have the same option. The bar also offers flavored ice orbs in a variety of flavors, created to be paired with premium spirits.  While I enjoyed a refreshing Moscow Mule directly from the tap my constant companion had an old fashioned with an apple spice ice orb.

20140923_181953To go along with the amazing cocktails Tap House also offers an extensive menu of small plates and sandwiches. Chef Harrison Mosher and his team produced a great menu of tasty treats.  One of our favorites was the District Wings.  The wings are fried with a thin crust and glazed with agave nectar and lime.  The wings area mouth watering mix of salty and sweet with a delightful crunch and moist tender meat.

Tap House is also home to one of the most amazing burgers in the city. The burger is a beautiful 6oz patty of grass fed beef served with fontina cheese and bacon. Despite the thickness of the patty the meat was juicy and well seasoned.

Chicken tacos are also an easy favorite. The chicken is moist and zesty served on soft tortilla piled high with fresh veggies.

Meat lovers must order the barbecue ribs The ribs are pull apart tender melt in your mouth goodness. The sauce offers the right amount of savory and sweet, and the ribs are coated in it but not swimming in it so you can truly taste the well cooked meat.

District Tap House isn’t just about producing great food and drinks its about creating an atmosphere of fun and hospitality. The staff is friendly knowledgeable and ready to serve you. The space also boasts on of the most reasonably priced menus in the area. Feel free to drop by and have a drink or two. The District Tap House is located at 246 west 38th Street.

Midtown Manhattan has a new watering hole.  Lexington’s is nowopen for business and ready to serve. The luxurious space is located on the main floor of the beautiful The Court Hotel, at 130 East 39th street, just a few short blocks from Grand Central Station and a few of the city’s most popular attractions, the space is easily accessible and a nice place to entertain out of town guests without the insanity of nearby Times Square. We visited the low key gastro pub last week for a sneak peak at the glorious new furnishings and menu. The space is sophisticated and spacious with a beautiful long bar and several intimate seating options. A great deal of careful planning went into its overall design and it shows.

Recap: The 10th Annual Vendy Awards

by Desha Winborne

If you live in a major city you know the joy of street food. NYC dwellers have a unique advantage as we have the Vendy Awards, an annual event that brings the best food trucks together in one convenient location for an afternoon of edible bliss. The awards were held on Governors Island a ferry accessible patch of land in NY Bay just a short trip from the southern tip of Manhattan. When we arrived we were met with an excited swarm of foodies bursting with excitement at the many options available.  We started our trip around the carts with complimentary glasses of Santa Cristina wine.  The tasty vino opened up our palates for the tasty foods offered by the various trucks.

Location: 135 West 45th St

Cuisine: American Diner

Items: 2 appetizers, 4 cocktails, 3 entrees, 2 desserts

Best Dish: The burger is hands down one of the very best in the city. The bun is soft and fresh and the meat moist and flavorful  The candied bacon is an incredible add-on that must be experienced.

Overall: A delightful casual atmosphere with good food and a friendly fun staff.

Sometimes the best meals are just outside your hotel room. Some of the best hotels in the city are also home to the best restaurants and bars in New York. Last week we had the pleasure of visiting he newly revamped Bar 54 and T-45 Restaurant in the impressive Hyatt Times Square. The hotel is just a few small steps from the middle of Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Fifth Avenue shopping and deep in the heart of the busiest area in all of NYC. The Hyatt has over 400 guest rooms stretched out over 54 stories. Though I am sure the rooms are luxurious we were there to eat drink and be merry.

Location: 11 Times Square

Cuisine: Eclectic American and Sushi

Items: 1 Sushi Roll, 4 cocktails, 4 entrees, 1 dessert

Overall: A relaxed space far removed from the excited throng of tourists just outside. This is a great space for native New Yorkers to entertain out of town guests or visit before or after one of the fabulous shows in the area. It s also a great watering hole for tourists looking for an easy to get to dining experience that offers a break from the excitement of the city.

The first time I saw Urbo was in passing. Its unique glass outside beckoned me and the appearance of flickering flames just beyond its doors was an inviting image that left me curious about its wares.  Located on one the busiest strips in Times Square the eatery somehow managed to gain and hold my attention and the exciting throng of tourists faded into the background.  I needed to get in there, but it wasn’t open yet. The space was still under construction despite the interesting décor.  Luckily the wait for the official opening was a short one and a few short weeks later I had the chance to experience the cuisine behind the flashy looks.

Restaurant Review: Love Cafe and Bar

by Desha Winborne

Location: 430 2nd Avenue New York, NY

Cuisine: Eastern European (Russian)

Items: A tasting of numerous dishes on the menu, over 10 Items!

Best Dish: The wings were amazing we love a well sauced wing, but the star was the stuffed cabbage. It was meaty and rich, a decadent combination.

Overall: A charming eatery that will grab you from the entrance. Margarita is a phenomenal cook with a warm heart that welcomes you into her restaurant with the ease of an old friend inviting you for dinner. A warm cozy place for great food and family oriented atmosphere.

Dining at Haru: New Location, Superb Menu

by xoJohn

It’s been nearly a year since we’ve been to Haru Sushi Time Square and a lot has changed. The popular eatery has moved locations, just a few steps away from its previous site to the famed Time Square Building at 229 West 43rd Street – Unit 221. The new spot will still have a full-service bar and sushi bar, banquet seating, and much more. A fun addition to the new location is the private dining room, where up to 15 guests can comfortably celebrate their own special occasion. Haru Sushi has a decadent modern design which makes it feel as if you’re not in the often congested Time Square yet boasts a professional crowd and sushi lovers.
