Summer is definitely over, but the fun doesn’t have to end just yet. Head over to the Baylander Steel Beach and enjoy the last remnants of good weather. Located at the West 125th street Piers, this former aircraft carrier, the Baylander IX-514, is now a lively Harlem Hotspot, filled with good music, stellar drinks, and a casual atmosphere. The Baylander boasts one of the most impressive views of the Hudson River. Its 360-degree panoramic views and location on the water give the illusion of a party cruise without the seasickness.
Although the view is luxurious, the vibe is very casual. All orders are placed at the bar, there you will receive a small buzzer that will alert you when your food is ready for pickup at the kitchen window. We opted for prime seating directly in front of the bar, located on the main level. If you want the most phenomenal view, head up to the top floor. From there you can immerse yourself in a picturesque panoramic view of the Hudson. Though the insta-worthy views alone are worth a visit we highly recommend enjoying a round or two of their enticing cocktails and delectable bites.
Highlights from the menu include:
The Big Apple Frosé is a frozen concoction of Hampton Water Rosé Wine, Barking Irons 80 Prof Applejack, Strawberry, and Raspberry Purées. It is a sweet refreshing treat that reminds us of a beachy vacation.
Firecracker Flash Fried calamari is crispy squid rings drenched in a sweet and sour Thai chili sauce served with hot cherry peppers. The calamari and sauce alone have a nice subtle heat, add pepper to your bite and prepare for a spice explosion in the best possible way.
The West Harlem Lobster Roll is overflowing with thick juicy bites of lobster held together by a sweet and buttery toasted King’s Hawaiian roll.
Cajon shrimp tacos are served on a flour tortilla with a generous amount of homemade guacamole, sour cream & pico de Gallo. The shrimp are juicy, plump, and well seasoned.
BBQ Short Rib Sandwich is a hearty filling sandwich of slow-roasted shredded beef short rib, smothered in a strawberry BBQ sauce, topped with coleslaw, fried crispy onions, and sweet pickles on Martin’s potato roll. We couldn’t decide if this tasted like an upscale Sloppy Joe or a classic pulled pork sandwich, either way, we enjoyed every single bite. The combination of sweet barbecue sauce, smoky beef, and crispy veggies was incredible.
Unfortunately, The Baylander’s 2021 season is coming to an end, get in while you still can! Once the temps dip for good, you’ll have to wait until the Spring thaw to enjoy this hidden gem.
