Boyswear – handled the first-ever New York Fashion Week: Men’s collection of shows with an oddly fun and spirited presentation from a retro time-warp, fueled by “The Sound of Music” soundtrack. Jackson McKeehan’s inaugural showing of Boyswear actually worked – or maybe it was just the humidity on a chic midsummer’s day.
At first glance, I was a bit overwhelmed by androgynous accessories paired with otherwise simple ensembles and boxy shapes – but the ribbon bow ties and coated linen culottes in retro prints connected beautifully with the model’s Amish-style hair. The psychedelic trip down memory lane seemed harmless until you noticed a strong homage to Charles Manson.
Favorite Looks: Short-Sleeved Royal Blue button-down covered in an Animated Goat Motif Print; and an Orange Garbage Bag-style Jacket
I’m sure that guests would have preferred Boyswear to take place during the afternoon session with the pairing of an open bar, but out of the initial five showings during the first-morning session – Boyswear represented the best designer personality; offbeat and quirky….just imagine McKeehan greeting onlookers by belting out “The Sound of Music.”
