Though
The color palate of grey, black, whites, burgundy and the modern prints seen through the entire collection are drawn from the grainy nature of the old film. Thirty-eight looks to be exact, the introduction of the show featured knee length dresses and skirts in shades of white. Amongst these, a crepe sheath dress with a flounce collar and a motorcycle jacket worn with an A-line skirt, both made in leather, proceeded down the runway. Followed by such a clean color scheme, Siriano changed it up with modern print pieces of black and white made out of satin. Some trousers in this print, another as an oxford cami paired under a black marble jacquard moto jacket which was worn with a white pin tucked maxi skirt.
Continuing was the color scheme of blacks; faux croc skirts, faux croc jackets, silk dresses and the slim fitting snake tuxedo jacket with trousers. As the models continued to walk you could clearly see the inspiration of “Bats” showing through his cohesive collection and focusing on every detail. The blood red lip models, the color black, the detail of the bat vein skirts and dresses and down to the cuts of the fabrics. An example of this was the dress with a flowy cape resembling a bat wing-beautiful in execution. “These flying demons of the night intrigue me with their creepy, dark and dramatic presence as well as the intricate detail of the veins and the bone structure of their wings”, Siriano says.
In conclusion to the looks, the last pieces that were shown were floor length gowns and cocktail dresses. Included in these was one of my favorites. A show stopper black leather halter bodice with a silk ball gown skirt. I loved how he could pair up different fabrics like leather and silk without making the look harsh but instead evoking an emotion of elegance. The deep burgundy tulle gathered trumpet gown and the tulle applique gown shown in the end I thought were more Christian’ s signature pieces of his past work but despite that…..it seemed to work. What also seemed to work was the shoes….
The shoe designs that were used on the runway will inspire the Fall 2012 Christian Siriano for Payless Gold. Due in stores Sept 12th….you just got to wait and see for that one!
