Chefs Club Counter Opens in SoHo

by xoJohn

Last night, Chefs Club Counter opened its doors on the iconic corner of Spring and Lafayette with a special VIP preview of the first “fine-fast” concept brought to life by entrepreneur Stephane De Baets, the Belgian entrepreneur behind the game-changing restaurant group, Chefs Club. Hundreds of hungry foodies packed the posh eatery for a first look and taste. The VIP crowd sipped on fine wines, like Ben Watts’ Watts Up Rosé, while sampling the menu. Speaking of the menu, everything was quite tasty but our favorites were the JG Burger Sliders, Duck Rice, Chicory Pizzas, and the Eggslut Crostini. They are definitely a must-have when you stop by. So who are the rockstar chefs making up this delicious menu? Jean-Georges Vongerichten, George Mendes, Linton Hopkins, Magnus Hansson, and Eggslut’s Alvin Cailan.

One of the highlights of our social calendar is the Sun Wine Fest, an annual celebration of wine and spirits. This Mohegan Sun hosted event, showcases adult beverages from all over the country. This year’s festival marked the first year of its rebranding as The Sun Wine and Food Fest. The celebration included more vendors than years past as well as a focus on food and the art of cooking. The festival is broken down into an action packed weekend of demonstrations, parties, and tastings. This year we attended the Saturday Grand Tasting as well as Sunday Brunch with Chef Mario Batali. The celebrated Batali was but one of several celebrity chefs in attendance. Aaron Sanchez, Rocco DiSpirito, Michelle Ragussis, and Roble Ali were also on hand providing demos and mixing in the hordes of foodies and beverage connoisseurs.

La Barrita Brings Argentina to Brooklyn (Review)

by xoJohn

Location: 132 Montague Street, Brooklyn

Cuisine: Argentinean

Best Dish: Though we would happily eat our way through a swimming pool of their decadent wild mushroom sauce, the star of the evening was the bone in short rib, a carnivore’s dream come true.

Overall: A quaint casual eatery with warmth and charm to spare. Add it to your date night roster or weekly happy hour rotation.

Location: 519 Columbus Avenue, New York, NY

Cuisine: Northern Italian

Best Dish: The lamb chops were outstanding and the spaghetti is divine but our favorite dish of the evening was the oven roasted salmon. It is not easy to achieve crisp skin and maintain tender flesh with salmon and yet that is exactly how it was presented and enjoyed.

Overall: The posh decor is reason enough to visit but you will fall in love with the food. If you love Italian cuisines, this restaurant is a must. The venue is also an ideal space for an impressive first date or special occasion. The setting and cuisine are enhanced by a resplendent entertainment experience that features musicians and students from nearby Juilliard and Lincoln Center performing live music nightly and during brunch, and occasional opera.
