Review: Alice’s Arbor in Brooklyn

by xoJohn

Location: 594 Classon Avenue, Brooklyn, NY

Cuisine: American

Best Dish: We adored the pork chops. The meat was succulent and the chutney was a tasty complement to the meaty chops.

Price: $$

Overall: A casual home-style eatery the whole family will enjoy.

Brooklyn welcomes Farm to Table Freshness with new eatery Alice’s Arbor. This Bed-Stuy gem offers classic seasonal American fare. The purveyors of this establishment are committed to providing a healthy alternative to preservative laden dining. To achieve this they have curated a seasonal menu showcasing the freshest vegetables and meats of the season. Each dish is prepared using only ingredients sourced from local farms. The Farm to Table concept is evident in the design of their space. The decor is reminiscent of a charming country bistro with reclaimed wood and vintage barn materials throughout. The space includes driftwood branch light fixtures, hanging mobiles scrounged from the Ashokan Reservoir in Upstate New York, and clustered glass beaker pendant light fixtures. It reminds us of family road trips down the east coast, sharing a meal with loved ones in a classic country kitchen.

Cruising along the Hudson is one of the things we look forward to every spring. The view of the infamous NYC skyline and the tranquility of sailing is an experience that never gets old. A few weeks ago we upgraded our usual cruise, with a wine and cheese pairing class aboard Classic Harbor Line‘s Manhattan II. This particular cruise is about 2 hours long and features wines from all over the world paired with artisan cheeses all presented by Wendy Crispell, a certified wine and cheese educator.

Overall: Mezcaleria La Milagrosa is a modern speakeasy, with top shelf Mexican spirits and a warm inviting presence. Feel free to bring your out of town guests for an impressive evening of cocktails or your significant other for an exclusive nightcap.

Great Flavors brought quality products of Greece to The Greek Tribeca restaurant. Great Flavors, a campaign co-financed by the European Union and Greece, hosted an intimate lunch where we got the chance to indulge in premium food products from Greece. Chef Dionisis Liakopolous showcased the unique flavor profiles of its signature food products and they were quite tasty.

May is National Burger Month. We kicked off this year’s festivities with a trip to Harlem Shake. Since opening in May of 2013, Harlem Shake has earned a fan base that started with its neighbors and has since branched out to the outer boroughs and beyond. Burger lovers from all over flock to the retro eatery, to enjoy the sumptuous menu of burgers, shakes, and sandwiches. The vibe at “Shake” mirrors the coolness of its surroundings. Harlem is known for its artistry and affluence, and Harlem Shake embodies the spirit of Harlem with its stylish decor and welcoming energy.

Lovage is a swanky upscale lounge, with a fun laid back approach to nightlife. Located at 350 West 40th Street, just above Magnolia Restaurant, the lounge is just a few steps from the dazzling lights of Time Square on the 37th floor. Upon entry prepare yourself for the spectacle of the 17-foot floor to ceiling windows exposing the glorious New York skyline, On a clear night, you can see just almost all of New York’s most iconic structures, including lady liberty.
