Interviews and Lots of Opinions

Hank & Cupcakes has made quite an impression on the NY music scene since moving from Israel almost 2 years ago. Call them the dynamic duo as they write and perform their own catchy-as-hell pop songs with Hank on bass and Cupcakes as vocals and on drums. They are giving pop music a much needed kick in the ass so no need to feel ashamed about knowing the words to these songs and no lip synching around here because they’re quite talented!

Exclusive Interview with Ameriie

by Dana Bingham

SS1Ameriie Performs at the SoftSheen-Carson Roots of Nature Picture of Strength Event

When Ameriie came on to the music scene in 2002 with Why Don’t We Fall In Love, from her debut album All I Have, I thought she was just another pretty face with a sweet voice. I wasn’t totally convinced that she had what it takes to last past a first single. By her second single Talkin To Me, I found myself humming the song and unable to shake it from my head.

Exclusive Interview with Les Nubians

by Dana Bingham

Les Nubians2010 In 1998, I had just moved to the DC area and naturally I jumped right into the concert scene. The first show I ever saw in DC was a free concert by Les Nubians. I had fallen in love with the French/English singing sister duo. Their songs Makeda and Tabou were on regular rotation on 96.3 WHUR. I do not speak French nor have I attempted to study it, but the way Les Nubians sing, language is not a barrier.

Last Wednesday, JSD got a chance to catch up with F.Stokes before he took the stage at the Break’N Through concert series benefiting VH1’s Save the Music Foundation at the Red Bull Space. Stokes was one of the top five unsigned artists chosen to be featured in Season Two of the series in front of a live audience. He found it humbling to support an organization that restores instrumental music education in America’s public schools as music was one of the entities that has saved his own life.
