Interviews and Lots of Opinions

Hallelujah, you’re a sinner, you’re a saint
You built me up to break, turned my lovin’ into hate
But honey when you left me in the darkness I saw the light
I picked the sorry’s up
I put the worries down
You’re love, no it just ain’t worth cursin’
You’re heart, you’re heart just ain’t worth hurtin’
~Diane Birch (Forgiveness)

When you read these lyrics, what comes to mind? Is it a past relationship? Is it a personal struggle with yourself? On the morning of June 1st, those where the questions I asked myself when I posted these lyrics on my Facebook status. Not only did these lyrics inspire me, more importantly, but the lyrics were also a clever way of reflecting my anticipation of seeing an amazing musician later that evening. It had been almost a year since the release of Bible Belt and nearly nine months since I first sat down to interview Diane Birch at the Hudson Hotel. I was anxious to not only see her perform again but also to sit down and catch up with what was new in her world.

A Conversation with Hess is More

by Dana Bingham

“I think of music as a rubber band – I like to try and stretch it. Let’s say melancholy in one end, and humor in the other, and see how far you can take it. Bringing oppositions together.”~ Mikkel Hess

JHollins0841.jpg J.Hollins picture by jsdailyIf you are searching for a smooth R&B album to spice up your iPod, you must add The Soul Renaissance LP by J. Hollins. J. Hollins, a Chicago native, has been compared to the likes of John Legend and Anthony Hamilton, but it is clear that he has a style all of his own. The Soul Renaissance LP is more than a sultry romantic mix of tracks, it is a biographical sketch of a young man’s journey to become a grown man. JohnSimonDaily caught up with J. Hollins to discuss his current release.

Revealed | Meet MuteMath

“Come on, can I dream for one day?
There’s nothing that can’t be done
But how long should it take somebody
Before they can be someone

‘Cause I know there’s got to be another level
Somewhere closer to the other side
And I’m feelin’ like it’s now or never
Can I break the spell of the typical?”
Mute Math (Typical, 2006)

While attending NYU and working at Dooney & Burke on Madison Avenue (NYC) in 1988, Simone Boyles filled in for a friend at as a babysitter. This led to an opportunity for her to work for ‘Jane Doe’, a major player in the fashion’s wholesale industry. Simone established a good rapport with her and quickly became her assistant. Within six months, Simone rose to a sales position within the organization, closing her first deal with Fran Erico (the original owner of Equinox). Simone’s charismatic personality was the key ingredient that led to her success as a salesperson, and over the next four years she worked within various corporations and in multi-line showrooms.

Briana Bigham recently held an intimate cocktail party for the industry, media, and friends at Maritime Hotel at Cabanas. At the cocktail event guests got the first look at her B.Marie (her first initial and middle name) Spring 2010 collection. B. Marie handbags are ahead of the game; we saw one of a kind designs, lots of metallic studs, different fabrics pairings, never before seen prints, and a variety of shapes and sizes. The pieces are versatile and durable for working women. We loved how each bag easily transitions from the daytime to the nightlife. Here is a closer look at B.Marie Spring 2010 plus our interview with Briana about the collection and her company.

by xoJohn

I am quite sure we’re not the only one captivated by the new McDonald‘s ad campaign. This soulful beauty captured our attention over the holidays in the commercial (see below). We just had to find out more about her. The newly 365 Black McDonald’s endorsed recording artist “Dollar Van Demo” national campaign commercial has just launched on every local and cable channel over the holiday. Joya Bravo also co-produced the record which she performs in the commercial.
