Lord & Taylor culminated a year long precess of extreme renovations with a store wide party and shopping event. The nearly old flagship opened its doors to journalists, bloggers shoppers and of course celebs for a red carpet night of refreshments music and style.
As CMJ came to a close, the real marathon began as I scrambled to catch as many concerts as I possible could. Lucky for me I only needed one artist to sum up my 2010 CMJ experience, Peter Hadar. I first came across Peter Hadar in 2008 on Love Will off of Ra-Re Valverde’s A Beautiful Mess album. His smooth voice made me take note of the singer/songwriter who as written for the likes of Joe, Carl Thomas, Eric Roberson, to name a few. With his single Full Time Lover, Peter is gearing up for the release of a new album Take Off Victoria expected out Spring 2011.

Anyone who has had the opportunity to engulf themselves into the CMJ Music Marathon can honestly say it’s almost like world traveling without needing an airplane. CMJ covers all music genres from all over the country and other parts of the world. One thing is for sure language may divide us, but music can always bring us to a common ground.
With every CMJ concert I attended, no matter the artist or genre, I walk away with a sense of renewed inspiration.
As we enter the holiday season you are going to need to spice up your playlist for your holiday parties. A relatively new artist by the name of Kaci Battaglia is heating up the Billboard dance charts.
Last Wednesday, JSD got a chance to catch up with F.Stokes before he took the stage at the Break’N Through concert series benefiting VH1’s Save the Music Foundation at the Red Bull Space. Stokes was one of the top five unsigned artists chosen to be featured in Season Two of the series in front of a live audience. He found it humbling to support an organization that restores instrumental music education in America’s public schools as music was one of the entities that has saved his own life.
One of the bands I was most excited to see perform at the AfroPunk Festival was Cipher. Their socially conscious lyrics against the roaring guitars and hardcore drums, can put any one in a trance and send them dancing uncontrollably in to a mosh pit.
