Concept Korea Spring/Summer 2015 Collection

by Alvin J. Woods

Mercedes-Benz NY Fashion Week provides the best in global fashion and art. This year’s worldly experience took me to The Republic of Korea, with Concept Korea – an annual collaborative project of fashion collectives that introduce Korean style overseas. The spring 2015 season was a special year as Concept Korea’s celebrated its 10th anniversary with “The Golden Movement” theme, which means to bring precious waves of changes to the fashion world with three new Korean designers’ collections.

À MOI Spring/Summer 2015 Collection

by Alissa Wilson

Effortless, easy, classic, and sleek describe A Moi’s spring 2015 collection. Drawing inspiration from her ancestral past, designer Alejandra Alonso created a collection that was all about ” rejecting the conventional and creating new realities.” A color palette of cool soft colors like navy, white, and powder blue was the backdrop for embroidered dresses, jacquard cardigans, and asymmetrical skirts. The collection offered a revered sophistication. Texture played a key role in Alonso’s use of crisp organza, soft Italian cotton, and lambskin.

Welcome to Miami, Bienvenidos a Miami! Original Penguin Spring 2015 stepped back into the wonderful era of the late 1950’s Miami, a glamorous time period filled with energetic fun and promise.

The design team behind Original Penguin Spring ’15 referenced the beautiful homes and art-deco buildings of South Beach in the color palette, with chromatic blues, vibrant greens, aqua, and soft pinks. Real men wear pink and this collection is a champion of that idea. It would not be a Miami-inspired collection without floral print.

Bespoken S/S ‘15 took casual style to the next level with a collection that feels like the fashionable soundtrack of New York City millennial professional, on the go. Street-style is more prevalent now than ever – and Bespoken creative directors Sammy and Lian Fayed, are on-trend with a sporty twist.

Standout looks A navy blazer that flows into an earthy pattern of leaves paired with shorts with the same leaf pattern; a gray suit with a white whisker-wash; and the introduction of sneakers that feel fresh and unforced.

J.Lindeberg S/S ’15 “Biotopia” took a cue from English street style and I could not be happier! Designer Jessy Heuvelink’s vision of rock-and-roll spunk from the late 1960s continues, but with a clear emphasis on chic details that provide a contemporary feel.

Safe went out of the window with this collection, as Heuvelink created his own rules – mixing leather, studs, shiny polish oxfords, animal patterns, floral prints, and shiny polish oxfords. Kudos to J. Lindeberg RTW Spring 2015 for producing one of the best looks of the entire season – a camel and black zebra-striped cardigan/jacket hybrid, paired with a black sheer tank, and tailored black pants.

The new trend in menswear – get a jumpstart on New York Fashion Week. Labor Day holiday barbeques and summer relaxation abruptly ended as the attention turned toward the future of fashion. New York Men’s Day took over Industria Studios with a variety of hot new collections for men of all ages. David Hart S/S ’15 kicked off the fashionable frenzy by conceptualizing a killer wardrobe intended for the ultimate desert playground – Palm Springs.

Aptly named MARITIME, designer Luis Antonio’s Spring-Summer 2015 Collection draws inspiration from the island waters of his San Juan, Puerto Rico homeland and his love of graphic designs in bold nautical colors.  Presented on September 6 at The Pavilion at Lincoln Center during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City, Antonio’s dresses, skirts and pants popped and sashayed down the runway.

11th Annual Jeffrey Fashion Cares fundraiser hosted by Anna Chlumsky went off without a hitch last night at The 69th Regiment Armory in New York City. The charitable event brings awareness of the plight of people living with HIV/AIDS and members of the LGBTQ community. The evening opened with a star-studded red carpet where we spotted Anna Wintour, Steven Kolb, Steve Madden, Roopal Patel, Prabal Gurung, Mickey Boardman, Justin Tarquinio, and much more. Guests were able to bid on a slew of great silent auction items while enjoying delicious cocktails.
