After a Summer of work, work, and more work we decided to take a few days of R&R before the holiday season. September through November is considered the off-season for Mexico, so it’s a good time to catch decent deals on travel and accommodations. Unfortunately, this is also the hurricane season which could be disastrous if attempting to travel during this time. Throwing caution to the wind, we booked our trip for late September and ended up with a storm-free week of fun and frivolity. The forecast literally called for Thunderstorms every damn day! It probably only rained for 20 minutes during the entire five days we were in Mexico. Otherwise, it was sunny and hot. We divided our trip into two parts; we spent two days exploring the streets of Playa Del Carmen before heading to The Grand at Moon Palace resort.

Over the weekend, the prestigious culinary community came together at Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack, to honor Padma Lakshmi. The annual Chefs & Champagne fundraiser is literally the event of the Summer is hosted by the James Beard Foundation (JBF). JBF does an excellent job of celebrating and nurturing people who are making America’s food culture more diverse, delicious, and sustainable for everyone. In addition to Chefs & Champagne, JBF administers the James Beard Awards; grants scholarships for culinary students; produces national events like the Taste America tour, and creates educational programs for the culinary community and food lovers.

Speaking of food lovers, more than 35 chefs from around the country, gathered under the tent at Wölffer Estate Vineyard to feed about 900 foodies and philanthropists at Chefs & Champagne. Everyone was there to not only nosh on the many offerings, sip Champagne Boizel, wines, and ciders from Wölffer Estate Vineyard, but to celebrate Padma Lakshmi. JBF’s newest CEO Clare Reichenbach shared “It was fantastic to honor Padma Lakshmi and to recognize her inspiring contributions to the culinary community.”

This January we attended The New York Times Travel Show at NYC’s Jacob Javitz Center.  The NYT Travel Show brings travel agencies, tourism boards, media, and the public together for a fun and educational weekend. The event allows travelers from all walks of life to network and gather information on a wide variety of destinations, tours, products and other travel-related businesses. Each of the booths is manned by an industry professional eager to help with your leisure or business travel needs. The convention center was divided into distinct sections each with a central theme or locale, allowing guests to navigate the over 600 exhibitors with ease.

A visit to New York City is not complete until you have a chance to cruise the Hudson River. There are many options in this city for river cruises. However, if you prefer elegant and intimate experiences than the excursions offered by Classic Harbor Line are for you.

Over the weekend, we headed out to the amazing beautiful Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack, New York for the James Beard Foundation‘s 27th annual Chefs & Champagne summer fundraiser. One of our favorite events of the year. This year, the foundation honored multiple James Beard Foundation Award–winning chef, author and restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson. More than 1,000 filled the outdoor tent for a night of philanthropy, music, laughs, delicious cuisines from over 35 prestigious chefs, plus endless bubbly and wines from Wölffer Estate Vineyard and Champagne Barons de Rothschild.

Pedaling My Way Through NYC with Columbia Bikes

by xoJohn

New York City is a busy yet awe-inspiring city with many great places to explore. Sometimes I find myself quite annoyed by the crowded and loud subways, that’s why I was ecstatic when my very first bike arrived at my humble abode. This particular bike wasn’t just your ordinary piece of machinery, it was a Columbia Bike. Columbia Bikes has been a top-of-mind bicycle manufacturer since 1877. With rollouts of finely made bikes like the various Roadsters, Tourist styles, Sports bikes, Juveniles, other lightweights and various bicycles; the Columbia brand has been an enduring symbol of bicycle road freedom for generations. Columbia Bikes is proud to put bikes and their riders and enthusiasts on the road, having ushered this incredible piece of technology into the scene in American. An iconic symbol during the 50’s could certainly be said to be the image of a child riding one of the bikes produced by this brand. This included boys with newspaper routes and non-working children that liked bikes such as the Columbia “Playbike” or miniature versions of bikes ridden by their parents. Many nostalgic bicycle and rider images persist to this day because of Columbia. American made, Columbia bikes got into the bike-production business back when the bike was unfamiliar to Americans.
