One of our favorite organizations, The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF), held their annual Collaborating for a Cure Benefit Dinner & Auction at Cipriani Wall Street. This marks 21 years of the charitable event. The annual gala raised approximately $2.5 million to support the SWCRF “Invest in Research” efforts that fund highly collaborative research projects focused on eradicating cancer. No snowstorm could keep guests away, including us, as the room was filled with hundreds of people. The gala encompassed 80% personal purchases and 20% purchases from corporations, whereas the other 14 fundraising events saw a turnout comprised of 20% personal purchases and 80% corporate purchases.

Dominican Women’s Development Center (DWDC) is an amazing organization whose mission is to empower all women and communities to advance gender equality and social justice. Something we all need during these difficult times. Since being founded in 1998, DWDC has worked hard to make families and individuals realize their potential. One of the many ways DWDC does this is by honoring extraordinary people at their annual gala. This year marks 30 years of charitable greatness. The gala was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, where they honored composer, lyricist, and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, and other notable people, including Dr. Casilda Balmaceda (Board-Certified Neurologist and CEO of Neurology Associates), Marisol Martinez (Vice President, Channel Relationship Marketing, Charter Communications), Jomari Goyso (Designer, Beauty Expert and Hairstylist), NYPD Police Officer Daniel Kern, Maria Terrero (Family Services Coordinator, Early Head Start, DWDC), and philanthropist and author Jean Shafiroff.

Global Lyme Alliance’s 3rd Annual New York Gala

by xoJohn

Global Lyme Alliance (GLA) is the leading private nonprofit dedicated to conquering Lyme disease through research and education. Currently, there are no accurate diagnostic tests for Lyme disease. The disease can continue to spread throughout the body, often leading to debilitating health consequences. Even following proper diagnosis and treatment, many individuals continue to experience symptoms of Lyme, including severe arthritis, persistent fatigue, impaired vision, memory loss and other cognitive problems. There is no test to definitively prove that Lyme bacteria have been eradicated or that an individual has been cured following treatment. Thankfully, organizations like GLA are helping to fight the disease.
