Review: Clay Restaurant

by James Bianca

Location: 553 Manhattan Avenue (at 123rd St.)

Price: $$

Cuisine: New American // Farm-to-Table

Overall: A rich and rare dining experience for a neighborhood that is rich in history. It is the kind of place that will have foodies traveling uptown and locals frequenting often.

From Architectural Designer Roberto Sosa, the space was designed to evoke the earthen charm of Clay’s namesake material. Large French doors with floor-to-ceiling windows give way to the intimate dining room, where modern white porcelain fixtures cast soft light onto natural wood tables. A muted gray painting of fragmented clay pottery adorns the far wall. A white marble bar running the length of the space leads to a downstairs dining room with a rough-hewn white stone wall and terracotta flooring.

Get Healthy at EXKi

by Desha Winborne

In our never-ending quest for good eats, we stumbled across EXKi an all natural casual eaterie in Manhattan. The bright airy space is newly redecorated with bright white walls, live plants and inviting display cases. The Carrara Marble and European oak accents sets the tone for a bright, inviting place to enjoy a wholesome meal.  EXKi’s new intuitive layout makes the delicious food a centerpiece as customers peruse the menu and grab-and-go options, and ample seating creates a welcoming environment for diners to sit down and refuel.  The urban garden inspired décor perfectly complements the freshness of the menu offerings, and adds to the wellness centered experience.  The decor mirrors EXKi’s menu of fresh vegetables clean eating. Guests who are in a hurry can pick up anyone of the varieties of grab and go snacks, sandwiches, and salads. EXKi also makes fresh juices and smoothies. Feel free to create your won blend of flavors or sample any one of their proprietary blends. We recommend the Keep Calm and Juice On, a special blend of fresh green kale, sweet apple, cinnamon and almond milk.

Location: 225 River Street, Hoboken, NJ 07030

Cuisine: Seafood/Italian

Best Dish: The Lobster Rigatoni was stupendous. The pasta was well made and the sauce was a light flavorful complement to the succulent lobster. We also highly recommend the creamed kale, it was one of the very best kale dishes we’ve had. The creamy sauce worked well with the bitter kale.

Overall: Halifax is a beautiful space offering delicious farm to table cuisine. The venue is a perfect place for a special occasion, a rare date night, or just a special treat for any seafood lover (like ourselves).
