Dining Done Right at AG Kitchen

by Desha Winborne

Location: 269 Columbus Avenue

Cuisine: Latino American

Best Dish: The Hot Chocolate Brownie is an absolute delight. Creamy ice cream fluffy whipped cream and warm bubbly brownie, how can you not fall in love with all of that? If sweet isn’t your thing, you can’t go wrong with the burger, the patty is everything juicy beefy dreams are made of.

Overall: AG Kitchen is a romantic comfortable space with good food that is well prepared and not pretentious. The menu is diverse enough to satisfy picky eaters but never overwhelming.

Cuisine: Cocktails and small plates

Best Dish: The flatbread was absolutely delicious.  The dollop of marscapone was a sweet surprise and paired well with the light balsamic drizzle and prosciutto.

Overall: Monarch is an impressive space and an ideal venue for a first date.  The cozy seating, soft lighting and relaxed atmosphere will melt away the first date jitters easily. The space is also great for entertaining out of town guests, the view coupled with the decor will leave your visitors speechless.

Amigos Restaurant & Bar (Review)

by Desha Winborne

Location: 2888 Broadway, btw 112th and 113th  New York, NY 10025

Cuisine: Mexican

Best Dish: Surprisingly the best dish was the Que Pasta. The rich sauce and spice was an unexpected treat.

Overall: Casual easy atmosphere and great food. This is a good choice for a low key dinner with friends or a casual night out.

We ventured out to Morningside Heights in search of something tasty and found it at Amigos, a quaint Mexican restaurant and bar. The decor is vibrant with red and white checkered tablecloths and colorful artwork displayed on the walls. The venue is surprisingly large with seating outside, near the bar, and at the rear. Bar seating is cozy and inviting; great for mingling with other patrons. For a more intimate meal, seating at the rear provides a larger area with the distance between parties and communal tables for larger groups. The menu is playful and fun with a mixture of traditional Mexican dishes and barbecue favorites.

Dining at Nello Restaurant

by Desha Winborne

Location: 696 Madison Avenue

Cuisine: Italian

Best Dish: We adored the Lamb chops and the Ossobuco, but the Calamaretti was the star. The stuffed was a unique dish that would appeal to any seafood lover.

Overall: A fine space for a dinner with friends or relatives but not ideal for rambunctious kiddies. Families can dine at Nello and often do but the menu may be problematic for the little ones. Nello is a good choice for a very special date night with your spouse or a meal with out of town guests who would enjoy people watching.

Location: 50 Avenue B, New York, NY 10009

Cuisine: American

Best Dish: Two Words- Lobster Tacos. These are an amazing hybrid between a lobster roll and a fish taco. The crunchy shell holds up well with the large chunks of delicious lobster meat.

Overall: It’s more than a bar it’s an event. Despite its horror themed appearance Lovecraft is a fun relaxed place with a friendly staff and really good food. It’s a good place to enjoy after work or with a few friends. The space also makes a great venue for a first date the decor alone will give you something to talk about and if you’re lucky, Troy will be there to supply the soundtrack to your new love story.

Location: 255 5th Avenue

Cuisine: American/Italian Steakhouse

Best Dish: We highly recommend the porterhouse for two. It was filling and tender, the way a good steak should be. For a lighter meal try the seafood pasta. The sauce is decadent and the seafood is well done.

Overall: An easy going yet sophisticated eatery with great service and a delicious menu. As far as steakhouses go, it is one of the very best in the city. The owners pride themselves on their amazing hospitality and a well-executed menu.

Scrolling Facebook for the hundredth time one boring afternoon I found the most amazing post. Nestled between some fool complaining and yet another picture of someone’s new baby was an advertisement for “The Great Big Bacon Picnic”. I hadn’t even visited the website and I knew I had to go. In the time it took to get to the official website I already had an outfit picked out and a companion in mind. Williamsburg was going to be hell to get to from the Bronx, on a weekend but this was bacon and bacon is always worth it.
