Janelle Monae

Janelle Monáe covers the Summer 2009 issue of Paper Magazine.

Excerpt:

“I try not to get too caught up in who I am,” says Janelle Monáe, her signature hairdo a wedge of nappy-chic, small legs crossed primly, hands clasped at the knee as if she were sitting at a tea party for the queen. “I try to find that balance of taking care of self and being selfless. [But] I do find comfort in embracing things that might make others feel a little uncomfortable.”

The Dress Rehearsal: Introducing the One Dress

by xoJohn

bc79dac0.jpg picture by johnsimondailyBy Filecellia Sampson

What a wonderful day for women worldwide. Guest of a Guest hosted “The Dress Rehearsal”; a One-Dress Campaign initiative to give a voice to silenced women around the world. In developing countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan, Sudan and many more; women are being silenced, isolated and misguided. Harmful traditions, conflict, and intimidation are catalyst to fuel these injustices against women. We can’t imagine this, because these issues are hardly being televised or proper attention is not being paid. Thank goodness for individuals such as Malcolm Harris, who not only created a platform to voice his and many others concerns, but the intelligence to create a clever approach.

Gray is the new Green indeed and the evidence is shining through the eco-friendly collection by “Up and Coming” designer Jon Gray. These amazing eco friendly fashion designs were on display for all to see and purchase at the Jon Gray Int’l Society Trunk show and Sample Sale Hosted by UNvogue. The event was sponsored by Oval Vodka supplied by Deussen Global Communications. This men’s wear brand was established in 2007 and has been going strong ever since, selling in stores such as Bergdorf’s and a soon to be flagship early 2010. Eco-compassion, creative concepts, luxury, street culture, and politics are what set Jon Gray aside from the rest. The attention to detail is immaculate, when describing a Jon gray t-shirt. With such names as Make Peace, Blind Justice, and Love Hurts,
