The art of taking the masculine and feminizing it to achieve the right balance with innovative masterpieces in the design process can only be conquered by the right mind. As I walked around the viewing for this new Woolrich John Rich & Bros. Black Label Fall 2011 Collection, I couldn’t help marveling at Paula Gerbase’s ability to transform fabric to its bare essential. In deed, she stuck valiantly to honoring the past while looking to the future.
As I walked around the room, I was intrigued by the perfection that was achieved and must congratulate Woolrich for allowing Ms. Gerbase to rise to such a powerful debut.
Particularly impressive were the Navy Lightweight Fitted Parka with Wool Paneling, the Navy Aran Knit Fade Dress and Navy Fitted Print Silk Georgette Oversized Dress. If I were a woman, I would not have left without ensuring that each piece was my wardrobe. Overall, the combination of cashmere, silk, wool, flannel, and leather to create expertly tailored Panel Pleated Trousers, Blazers, Safari Dresses to name a few, have allowed Woolrich’s Black Label to separate themselves from most other brands committed to the progress of women’s design. I am still haunted by the images of how everything was styled and the overall production of the show.
I am in eager anticipation for the next collection. Who knows, I may be able to pull off a few of the pieces from this remarkable collection.
