Whitney Port, the star of MTV reality shows The City and The Hills, is one L.A girl who’s designed a whimsical collection, and has taken a stance in the fashion industry. Whitney started off as an intern for WWD magazine, W magazine, and was ultimately awarded the position of “Fashion Contributor” at Teen Vogue. After departing Teen Vogue in 2007, Port took a position at People’s Revolution, a fashion PR firm, owned by Kelly Cutrone. In 2008, she left People’s Revolution for a position with Diane Von Furstenburg in New York, but nevertheless returned to People’s Revolution, in 2009. Whitney debuted the Whitney Eve collection in 2008, and showed in 2009 at New York Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer season. This year the young starlet hosted a presentation of her collection on Jane St. in New York’s west village. Whitney’s “The City” co-stars Louise Roe, Jessica Hart, Samantha Swetra, and Joe Zoe (ELLE Magazine), were all present for the unveiling. The feminine bright colored garments were a mixture between the laid-back California vibe, and the chic edge of New York. Port collaborated with artist Lisa Stannard for this collection, and presented cropped sweatpants, silk blazers, floral jumpers, sleeveless blouses with ruffle detailing, empire-waist dresses with caped sleeves, printed shorts, and high-waist skirts. The collection is an array of bright purples and oranges, pinks, bold neutrals, black, pastel greens, and white. All 20 models wore a different look from the spring collection, and posed in shoes provided by Giuseppe Zanotti and jewelry by DANNIJO. This collection has definitely placed Port in a lane of her own, and makes us look forward to future collections from the famed reality-star turned fashion designer.
