Vivienne Tam presented her 2013 collection to the fashion world on September 12. Vivienne is known for her “culture-bridging, east-meets-west approach to design.” This preview was a special one because it showcased the recently formed partnership between Vivienne Tam and TSL Jewellery. The collection was inspired by metal, wood, water, fire and earth, the Five Elements of Chinese cosmology.
Martha Huang noted that “each element has its own category of shape, color, texture, and power, and this season Vivienne Tam works her alchemy, combining fire triangle with metal circle, water wave with wood column and earth square…now in a new collaboration with TSL Jewellery, Vivienne Tam creates perfectly balanced works of wood, jade, gold, garnet, and agate to embolden the spirit and enhance energy.”
Vivienne Tam wowed the crowd with her use of color and patterns. Look after look commanded positive responses from attendees including myself. You could hear people talking to each other and expressing their admiration for the collection. Each piece got better and better with each model entrance. In total Vivienne debuted thirty-nine looks.
Vivienne used a lot of silk and she used it well. She had a green silk chiffon long dress, a tomato silk faille dress, a black silk chiffon long tank dress and a black silk sheath with hexagonal cutwork that was absolutely breathtaking. The TSL Jewellery complemented and completed each outfit.
It was a great showing for Vivienne Tam and it was clear to see why pieces from her previous collections are on display in some of the world’s most prominent museums. She continues to make unique and impactful contributions to the world of fashion.
