VH1 Saves the Music with Gleeful Contradictions + Matthew Morrison Performance

NYC’s Hard Rock Cafe set the scene for the opening performance of the Song Writers Music Series for VH1 Save The Music Foundation. The tour will feature an assortment of performers selected each will have a personal connection to the city in which they will perform their set. For the New York leg of the national tour Glee’s Matthew Morrison lent his melodious pipes. Morrisson’s ties to the big apple include  studying at NYU and a stint on Broadway early on in his career. Known by most as the charming Mr. Schuester on Fox’s smash hit “Glee” Morrisson presented the crowd with selections from his Self titled Album which was released on May 10th. The prime time heart throb performed selections including my personal favorite “Summer Rain” and the aptly titled “My Name” which has a personal connection to the star. Lucky spectators got the inside scoop on the songs meaning, the track represents Morrison’s internal struggle with drawing a line between Matthew Morrison the man and Will Shuester the character.

We caught up with Vasquez on the carpet for a quick chat:

JSD: First off happy Belated Mothers Day!

LV: Aww Thank you so much.

JSD: How Did you spend the big day?

LV: My Husband and my son took me to breakfast at the four Season's then then took me shopping.  We kept it light, I like the simple things.

After shopping I came home to a home made card from my little man with his hand print, to keep close to my heart.

JSD: Awww that sounds so sweet. What can we expect from the next season of LaLa's Full Court?

LV: I don't think people really understand what happens to a family when a player is traded.  How quickly your life is uprooted and the chaos that follows.

I hope to give a viewers a glimpse into the process and all the hard work and sacrifices we have to make.

After the performance guests enjoyed a full bar courtesy of sponsor Bacardi and the music of DJ Reach who kept the party going well into the night. The event helped to raise money for VH1 Save The Music project which helps bring music education into public schools. The next stops on the tour include Nashville on June 2nd, headlined by The Band Perry. Performers int he series will do a few songs from their own catalog followed by a song contradictory to their chosen genre. For Morrison’s performance he chose a power ballad from Idol Winner Chris Allen as his contradictory song. The powerful piece was a major departure from the singer’s laid back style.

In addition to the concert series, sponsor Starburst has also spearheaded the “Contradiction Project”, the initiative hopes to help unify people through individual contradictions and music. Guests at the Hard Rock were invited to share their personal contradictions and explore those of others via an interactive  touch screen display. A fun filled night to say the least, Starburst and VH1 combined an evening of great music.
