Kati Stern, the Hungarian-born designer who was a former musician, channeled her rock-star tastes into her collection, as she has been since she started the line in 2003. But each season, she is able to bring different looks to the table, all equally glamorous.
Dresses were the main event for this fall collection, all featuring beautiful fabrics with intricate tailoring, further confirming that Venexiana is fashion house for rock-n-roll haute couture. In keeping in line with the glamorous looks, the hair and makeup were dramatic and visually interesting (which was done by Napoleon Perdis).
What makes the collection so rock-star glamorous is her interesting juxtaposition of crystals and sequins and giving them a bit of an edge with her architectural designs and fluttering silhouettes. Plunging necklines and form-fitting bodices paired with materials such as silk, fur, glitter and sequins gave all the looks a diva-like quality.
Stern has a knack for creating a collection that includes looks for every taste – and the looks all seem to compliment each other, which is a difficult feat. One shoulder and asymmetrical dresses that shimmered from metallic fabrics and sequins dominated the runway. Several of the dresses can be easily envisioned on a red-carpet, as the various textured fabrics and embellishments make the dresses statement pieces.
At the end of the collection were two exquisitely made – and unexpected – wedding gowns, both with Swarovski crystals on Italian silk and silk organza, respectively – paired with gorgeous headpieces that had the audience giving Stern and her models a standing ovation at the end of the show.
