This past Saturday the 3rd Annual Tour de Pier was held at the Manhattan Beach Pier. The Tour de Pier “is a unique fundraising event that brings one of the hottest indoor fitness activities – stationary cycling – to the gorgeous outdoors.” Riders participated in a four-hour spin session lead by celebrity guests and some of the best instructors in the South Bay. Tour de Pier participants raised funds for three cancer charities: the Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach, the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, and the Uncle Kory Foundation.

Throughout the four-hour session the energy level of the riders, some of which were dressed in tutus and superman capes, was electric! Thanks to the music, the cool costumes, and the amazing view the pier was buzzing. Outside of cheering on the cyclists, those in attendance had the opportunity to partake in the Health & Fitness Expo where brands like KIND Healthy Snacks, Pasta Chips, and Aloe Gloe were handing out some tasty freebies. The younger attendees were kept entertained in the Kids Zone, where they were able to play games and participate in health related activities.
This year’s Tour de Pier had a fundraising goal of $850,000; they exceeded their goal and raised over $873,000! Prior to this event I wasn’t aware that this type of fundraiser existed. I love to spin and having lost someone to cancer this is definitely something I am looking forward to participating in next year.
