Instead of the usual dinner and a movie, take a walk on the sexy side and give The Midnight Experience a try. Just this Tuesday we were treated to a preview of what promises to be one of the hottest shows in town. The Midnight Experience is a no holds barred Burlesque, Aerialists, and comedy program. The show is located at The Cutting Room, a popular bar-restaurant and concert venue. We have been to The Cutting Room before and were delighted to come back and preview the newest show in their lineup. The air was electric as excited bar patrons enjoyed the aerial talents of Joshua Dean and Ekaterina, two of The Midnight Experience’s stars. Our excitement grew with every flip twist and turn as Joshua defied gravity pausing every so often to serve sparkling wine to thirsty partygoers while suspended in mid-air. The aerial performance in the bar was just a teaser for the main event. Showtime for the preview came quickly and we were ushered into the intimate concert area.
The show began with an introduction and monologue by Albert Cadabra, the Master of Ceremonies. Cadabra is no stranger to the stage, in addition to his stints as host of several burlesque shows he is also a comedian, magician, and sideshow performer. He commanded the stage and kept the crowd laughing and thoroughly entertained. His comedic and magic performance was interrupted periodically by gorgeous burlesque dancers, a contortionist, and the amazing aerialists.
For the preview performance, we enjoyed the smooth sexy moves of The Maine Attraction, the fun and sultry Boylesque of Mr. Gorgeous, the unbelievable dexterity of Ekaterina, and the aerial mastery of Joshua Dean.
Though all of the performances were enjoyable the aerialists are truly breathtaking. Unlike most demonstrations of its kind, The Midnight Experience offers the viewer a front row seat to the excitement. Though we would never dream on interrupting, we were close enough to touch the soaring performers on each decent. The venue is intimate enough to ensure that each and every seat has an amazing view, there is no such thing as a bad seat.
Crowd participation is all a part of the act and if you’re lucky, you may find yourself on the stage helping Mr. Gorgeous take off his latest costume or participating in a crazy contest. Either way, we can guarantee you will be entertained. The performers are funny and friendly; they immediately put you at ease. Additionally, a room full of drunken strangers can be surprisingly supportive. Everyone at the show came to have a good time and it is evident from start to finish. Each act is engaging and memorable. Thankfully you don’t have to rely on our drunken mind to recall everything you saw, photography is welcomed and encouraged, just be sure to turn off that distracting flash.
Nothing in life is free and this show is no exception. For the price of a 3D movie ticket, $20 you can enjoy the show. There is also a $20 minimum in food and or drink for every person at your table. Thankfully the food and cocktails at the cutting Room are highly recommended and enjoyable. In fact, we can personally recommend the “Figgy Pop” cocktail and any one of their burgers for a casual night out. If you want something a little fancy try the crab cakes you won’t be disappointed. The show makes its official debut on May 21st, you may purchase your tickets at The Cutting Room.
