The Spring/Summer 2012 collection was no exception. Even though every The Blonds collection is va-va-voom, the Spring/Summer 2012 collection, with its 1950’s Playboy theme, was entirely demure. To top it off, everyone’s favorite over-the-top, colorful personalities were in attendance: legendary “Sex and The City” stylist Patricia Field, outspoken ice skater-cum-designer Johnny Weird, “America’s Next Top Model” fashion shoot director Jay Manuel, and every drag queen this side of the Mason-Dixon Line.
The collection was outstanding and mixed just the right amounts of lavishness, jewels and sex appeal. The first 20 looks featured modern interpretations of the classic, pin-up Playboy bunny—from a purple satin and crystal bustier and matching bunny ears to the collection’s first look, a gold crystal bustier emboldened with a black Pyrex Playboy bunny modeled by Phillipe Blond himself.
Standout Looks: The bustiers with pops of fox fur; a metallic pink latex top and skirt with fox detail at the bust that looked to be designed for living Barbie; and my personal favorite, a red metal mesh dress with purple latex gloves that, between the color scheme and nipping to exaggerate the waist, instantly evoked cartoon vixen Jessica Rabbit.
Between the guests in attendance, the homage to classic, 50s Playboy and the show-stopping looks, The Blonds Spring/Summer 2012 Collection had guests saying ‘ooh and ahh’ throughout the entire presentation. And truthfully, isn’t that what fashion should do?
