There
You never have to be with out the internet. You can have access to it anytime anyplace and for anything at all. There are even television shows based on internet content. Josh 2.0 for example capitalizes on the most watched content. Viral videos as the name suggests get into your blood stream and suddenly you’re re-tweeting or posting them for everyone to see. The internet is big business and a viable source of income for those in the know. While most can simply shut off, power down, or log out, contributors and serious bloggers don’t have that option. Someone has to provide the content that keeps ideas flowing, products reviewed, and the info hungry masses entertained as well as informed. There’s no rest for the weary bloggers, gossipers and internet reporters, as the world turns info must be gathered and posted up to the minute. Do not fret for these warriors, they love what they do, and the perks are fantastic. This past week your favorite bloggers, techies and internet gurus were invited to a Spa day of their very own sponsored by Spa Week.
During Internet Week, a 7 day festival in honor of New York’s growing internet businesses, Spa Week swept through the big apple offering massages, meditation and mixed drinks to the cyber fatigued masses. Aimed at providing a break for the internet warrior Spa Week sponsored the first VIP Internet Week retreat. Contributor Exhale Spa, provided masseurs an acupuncturist as well as key note speakers at the event. Held at the rooftop Garden of the Upper East Side’s Manhattan House, revelers were also treated to specialty cocktails provided by Voli Vodka and Ty Ku Wines and Spirits as well as delicious wraps courtesy of Energy Kitchen. Various healthy snacks were sprinkled about the room for all guests to enjoy as music wafted through the air and face to face chatter ensued. For most the rooftop deck was an ideal setting as it provided some much needed fresh air and a glimpse of sunshine, well until the rain started anyway. After cocktails guests were invited across the hall to take in the advice of inspirational speakers and a bit of yoga. Here are a few tips for managing your life online and off, as provided by Spa Week:
- Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale. Every breath you take is an opportunity to take in the new and the fresh, and every exhale gets rid of all the toxins and everything that does not serve you Catharine Hess (@exhaleNYC)
- Don’t work 10 hours straight and THEN take your break. “It’s not good for human health, psychology, your minds or your bodies. You get burnt out after 3 or 4 hours.” If you schedule allows for it, take your break in the middle of the day- Zachary Adam Cohen (@zacharycohen)
- 3 easy ways to start your day better: Start the day with a large glass of water with lemon. That mentally puts you in the right place to start your day off on a healthy note. Listen on your iPod on the way to work instead of being on your blackberry. Take 5 minutes in the morning to start your day with deep breathing exercises Keri Glassman (@keriglassman)
- Every time you get a tweet, you get a massive endorphin rush. So one of the things you have to consider when unplugging is that we’re drug addicted to our technology.” – Oz Sultan (@ozsultan)
- The single population (40,000 million Americans) is using online dating. Major point: Online dating was not invented for e-relationships. You must take it offline. Don’t spend more than 3-6 times communicating with someone before booking that live date. Andrea Syrtash (@andreasyrtash)
- When you’re off… REALLY be off. No in-between. Julia Roy (@juliaroy)
- Follow the Baby Momma Rule when online: Never post something you wouldn’t want your baby or your momma to read- Desha Winborne (@DaDivaDesha)
Okay so I threw one of my own in there, I am writing the piece after all. At the end of the day while the internet is a viable, resourceful ever expanding part of our lives let us not forget to get out there and live it up every once in a while. Bloggers, subscribers and techies alike, for the love of all things interesting get on out there and live a little, power down once in a while experience life beyond the screen and for heaven’s sake give yourself something worth tweeting about.
