Sushi Roxx is one of NYC’s most unique dining experiences. The trendy Japanese eatery is also a theater of sorts with nightly performances by some of the city’s most talented singers and dancers, who also happen to be part of the wait staff. In between courses, your server may be belting out a classic on the mainstage or twirling around the room in an intricate dance number. We attended a performance once before and were delighted to return to preview their latest show and sample a few new menu items. Among the new menu items are grilled shishito peppers, a spicy light alternative to classic edamame and four new sushi rolls. The new rolls feature an assortment of delectable ingredients such as caviar, crispy nori, snow crab, and lobster. We highly recommend the Van Halen, its a sweet fresh roll with just a hint of spice. We washed down the tasty treats with a few specialty cocktails. One of the newest on the menu is the Black Panther a gin and berry cocktail that is aromatic and refreshing.

There are three different themed performances on their weekly schedule. Wednesday nights you can catch their “I Love Roxx and Roll” compilation of hits. Thursday evenings are an homage to classics with their throwback set playfully entitled “Boogie Nights”. Lastly, starting April 13th Friday and Saturday nights will be devoted to “We Will Roxx You” their latest show of choreographed dance numbers and popular covers. The setlist for this show includes well-known hits from Aerosmith, Van Halen, Journey and Lenny Kravitz to name a few. Sushi Roxx is an entertaining evening of food, cocktails, and music that will leave you hungry for more. Visit SushiRoxxNYC.com for reservations.

A Conversation with Nelson Estevez

by xoJohn

Actor Nelson Estevez is a native New Yorker who can be seen playing Casey in Tyler Perry’s latest film, Acrimony. His talents expand beyond acting, as a mixed martial artist and athlete. Estevez considers both mental and physical training to be a key factor in preparing for a role. He says he trains to be an actor the same way athletes train to be in the Olympics, with conscious dedication and conditioning to all aspects of his life. What’s even more impressive is how he uses his mixed martial arts training to choreograph fight scenes. Do we have a future action star among us? From looking at his demo reel, we think so. We were happy to speak with the actor about his career, life, and Hollywood.

Her slumber is interrupted by a soldier of fortune and relic robber, Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) in his haste to rob the tomb. Ahmanet The Mummy arises, determined to regain her strength, and create a new world with the Egyptian God of Chaos, Set. In order for Set to rule in the flesh a human life must be sacrificed. Unfortunately, for Nick, he is the chosen one. Theatre Review: Disenchanted

by Desha Winborne

What do you get when you put six princesses in one room to tell the hard truth? You get Disenchanted a hilarious musical comedy featuring some of our favorite fictional princesses. The 90-minute production has been touring the country bringing laughter to theatre lovers. Thank goodness it has finally come to NYC in the off Broadway Theatre at St. Clements on Manhattan’s west side. The small venue allows the audience to be as immersed in the story as the princesses themselves. The show begins with our hostess and arguably the most popular princess in the Disney catalog “Snow White” and her co-hosts “Cinderella” and “Sleeping Beauty”. These women are nothing like the shrinking dainty flowers you would expect, they attack the stage with booming powerful voices and fills the room with music and biting wit.

Review: Fuerza Bruta in NYC

by Desha Winborne

Fuerza Bruta is an off-Broadway production celebrating the beauty in strength. The original production made its debut in Buenos Aires back in 2005. Creator Diqui James has thankfully brought the show to NYC’s Darryl Roth Theatre where it has been delighting audiences an average of seven times a week. The performers of this piece take their bodies through exhausting feats of endurance and brute force. The story which provides the framework for these physical stunts is open to interpretation. For me, it began as a nightmare. A lone man running along an endless track of ever-changing scenery and mounting obstacles. His fantasy produces dreams within dreams as he struggles to escape. During his journey, he encounters a cast of characters who engage and interact with him in bold exciting ways.
