As usual I was running late. My dining companion texted me a picture of his refreshing Margarita to make me feel even worse as I was making my way to Brooklyn. When I finally arrived, I was greeted by our spunky waiter, an annoyed friend, and the delicious scent of Mexican food. All was right in the world.

I’ve now been lucky enough to experience Restaurant Pearl’s dinner menu and the newly launched brunch. Let me tell you, you can’t go wrong with either! Restaurant Pearl is a new addition to the South Street Seaport neighborhood, attached to the 33 Seaport Hotel. The hotel’s lounge, Jewel Bar, prioritizes an elevated cocktail program with tableside mixology and highly curated drinks in unique glassware paired with small, shareable plates.

Though the name is clear, the annual Taste of the Upper West Side doesn’t just resonate with those living in the neighborhood. As an Upper East Side gal, I make it a mission to hop on the bus and attend this unforgettable culinary experience each year after discovering it pre-pandemic. Now in its 14th year, the Taste of the Upper West Side is proudly hosted by The Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District and ensures that the proceeds from the annual fundraiser go back into the community and help fund neighborhood projects.

The yellow scripture synonymous with delicious Italian food glowed proudly next to the Stock Exchange building. Serafina Express, a “Dine In or To Go” concept officially opened its doors at 30 Broad Street with a soiree fit for any pasta lover.

Serafina Express was created to meet the needs of those on the go, who refuse to sacrifice quality, even when the New York hustle calls. Anyone who has eaten at a Serafina knows they deliver Italian excellence, which won’t change. The emphasis at Broad Street and the seven other locations slated to open in the coming months will be on value, accessibility, and easy-to-use technology.

Check Out One of NYC’s Best Kept Secrets, Hidden Lane

by xoJohn

Last week, for the first time, I stopped by Hidden Lane, located in the Gramercy area of New York City. I was very excited to check out this hidden gem. On the evening of my visit, Hidden Lane hosted an intimate Winter Cocktail Soiree. Fitting and much needed for such a chilly evening. Although Hidden Lane is known for serving up specialty cocktails, on this night guests got to indulge in pizza and meatless meatballs from Zazzy’s Pizza in addition to chocolate-covered doughnuts and cookies from Innocent Yesterday on the Upper East Side. The pepperoni pizza was my favorite by the way.

Carnegie Diner & Cafe Officially Opens Today

by xoJohn

Back in 2016 the Carnegie Deli, an NYC icon had its final curtain call. In its wake the Carnegie Diner & Cafe has arrived to bring the nostalgia of old-school diners back to the city, creating a new generation of memories. The concept bridges the gap between modern and classic with state-of-the-art design by designer Demetris Charalambous, who filled the brightly lit dining room with comfy booths, communal tables neons, and mosaic tile flooring. Flourishing plant life adds pops of vibrant color throughout the space.

Restaurant Review: Seabird NY

by xoJohn

Location: 361 6th Ave, New York, NY 10014

Cuisine: Seafood

Cost: $$$

Overall: A quaint casual eatery with gourmet presentation and the latest destination to cure your seafood cravings.

If you are familiar with New York City’s West Village, you’ve probably walked by this quaint bistro once or twice. Seabird is located on the corner of Washington Place and 6th Avenue, a few hundred feet from the popular basketball courts of West 4th and just steps from the Halloween and Pride parade routes. From the outside, the restaurant resembles a coffee shop or bakery, but looks can be deceiving.
