Mohegan Sun

One of the highlights of our social calendar is the Sun Wine Fest, an annual celebration of wine and spirits. This Mohegan Sun hosted event, showcases adult beverages from all over the country. This year’s festival marked the first year of its rebranding as The Sun Wine and Food Fest. The celebration included more vendors than years past as well as a focus on food and the art of cooking. The festival is broken down into an action packed weekend of demonstrations, parties, and tastings. This year we attended the Saturday Grand Tasting as well as Sunday Brunch with Chef Mario Batali. The celebrated Batali was but one of several celebrity chefs in attendance. Aaron Sanchez, Rocco DiSpirito, Michelle Ragussis, and Roble Ali were also on hand providing demos and mixing in the hordes of foodies and beverage connoisseurs.

I am by all accounts a Rum and Vodka lover, however since the very first time I saw Olivia Pope wrap her lips around a wine glass I’ve been intrigued by this fermented grape beverage. What is so great about it? I’ve had wines and champagnes over the years sipping out of necessity but rarely with appreciation. Since I am a practicing foodie I need to open up my palate so I can speak knowledgeably about pairings and profiles. To help me with my quest my editor invited me to experience Mohegan Sun’s 12th Annual Sun Winefest. The event which raises money for charity features many booths from local and national vineyards all offering a sampling of their top products. Having been to Brewfest several times, I was excited at the opportunity to visit one of my favorite destinations. Mohegan Sun is an expansive venue with tons of great amenities and activities. Some of Mohegan Sun‘s features include:

There’s nothing better than a road trip for the last weekend of summer. A few friends some roadside snacks and you could travel for hours and never miss a thing. This summer we spent part of the last weekend in the fabulous Mohegan Sun resort in Uncasville, CT. At a mere 2 hours from NYC it is a convenient getaway and one of the tri-state areas most alluring attractions. We started our trip in Manhattan NY and were barely on the road 20 minutes when we found ourselves stuck in traffic. This would have been catastrophic had we not chosen to rent the Lincoln MKZ. The Lincoln climate control and Sirius satellite radio sound speakers kept us cool and entertained. The traffic jam became less and less of an annoyance as we made our way to Uncasville.
