Socialite Genevieve Jones and La Perla celebrated the launch of their new 2009 collections. The exclusive preview was held at the La Perla flagship store, located conveniently in the heart of the meatpacking district. Guests enjoyed complementary specialty drinks provided by Skyy Vodka. The very sweet Genevieve Jones kindly model her jewelry collection for us. She looked stunning in her strapless Zac Posen (who was also in attendance) dress, consisting of a white bodice, textured metallic skirt and of course her own jewelry line. With such a huge following, we were excited to have been invited to the special preview of Rebecca Minkoff’s Pre-Fall and Fall 2009 collections, which will be available between June and August.
The San Diego, California native began sewing at the tender age of 8 and designing clothes by the time she turned 18. Minkoff has turned her love of design into a well-established line that is currently carried in over 200 boutiques across the USA as well as France, Canada, Japan. Which such success under her belt, Rebecca could not have been more down to earth when we briefly spoke with her during the preview.
JSD: When did you start sewing?
Rebecca Minkoff: I started sewing when I was eight and I made my Bar Mitzvah dress when I was thirteen. So I have been sewing and drawing since I was eight.
A few weeks ago we brought you an exclusive interview with Tibi designer and creator Amy Smilovic. This fashion week season we were invited to the runway presentation of the Fall 2009 line.
The quote by Amy Smilovic at the top of the Tibi itinerary read “Fall is about a light-hearted moodiness influenced by the Russian fairytale “The Tale Of The Firebird.” Okay, so we’ll see some Russian influenced clothes this evening! This should be interesting. Based on her previous fall line, which I LOVED, I was excited to see what she had to present.
I was a bit disappointed with the overall fall line. There were a few stand out pieces, but the rest of the line was a bit simple-dull. The Russian influence translated in the ever-present black pieces and fur hats and gloves. There were ruffles, boxy pieces and she brought back paisley, which has to be colored a certain way for me to like it and this was not the case- damn those Russians! My favorite out of the simpler designs though was the Yelena Bustier Jumpsuit- a dark purple bustier, high-waisted black, loose, ankle tight pants. Simple, chic, nice!

Miss Sixty takes a walk on the Victorian-art-inspired side of their Fall 2009 line. The high-waist shorts are complimented with a plunging feminine, airy top and a thick black belt to accentuate the waist.
American designer Amy Smilovic held two successful careers at American Express in Manhattan and Ogilvy & Mather advertising, before her transition as founder and fashion designer of Tibi. Soon after moving to Hong Kong in 1997, Smilovic began designing a line of shabby chic dresses based on her inspirations while traveling abroad. The Tibi brand is known as one of the hottest contemporary lines and has a well established international presence at high-end boutiques around the world.
Amy is currently prepping Tibi for its Fall 2009 Runway Presentation at Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week on Tuesday, February 17, 2009. She took time out of her busy schedule to sit down with JohnSimonDaily.com for an exclusive interview, where she gave us exclusive details of what we can expect to see this season and much more.
JSD: What are your influences for the Fall 2009 collection and what makes it differ from previous seasons?/ What can we expect to see February, 17th? What fabrics were used?
