Though the Official start of Spa Week is set for October 11th 2010, we at JSD along with several other media outlets were invited to a sneak peak opening soiree last Thursday the 7th. The party was held at the Prince George Ballroom, a beautiful space with high ceilings gilded corners beautiful hard wood floors. The large space was filled with bloggers, journalists, television personalities and of course the random party crashers that seem to pop up at all events. Despite being carded at the door they somehow found their way inside signing up for every service available and partaking in the bountiful buffet. Before I could allow myself to stress about the uninvited, I allowed myself to take in the soothing soundtrack and beautiful surroundings of this event, it is for Spa week after all I’m supposed to be relaxed. One “woosah” and glass of red wine later the pretenders were a distant memory as I took in the well attended event. The room buzzed with excited faces and friendly vendors all doing their best to accommodate the swelling throng of media personnel. One of the biggest sponsors for this event, Dove Deodorant, created an incredible onsite spa experience. Blinding white fabric enclosed the Dove space. Just beyond the billowing cloth were pillow laden couches and individual enclosed booths where technicians performed “pedicures” a new procedure created to treat the armpits. The procedure includes an exfoliation and cleaning of the skin followed by a liberal application of Dove “Visibly Soft” deodorant. The deodorants new formula promises to reduce irritation caused by shaving and soften the underarm area, a necessary tool for those of us who enjoy arm baring apparel. The techs also offered neck and shoulder massages as well as elbow exfoliation. Along with Dove the following vendors were on hand to provide relief to the stressed out masses:
Bare Escentuals: The original bare minerals makeup manufacturer has been seen in every publication from Allure to WWD was on hand to offer “Make Unders”. This brand’s focus on healthy skin not just beautiful is a perfect addition to the Spa Week lineup.
Spa Chicks on The Go: The premier spa marketing and spa event planning service brought talented nail techs as well as henna artists to the event. You don’t need to be a major player to book these talented professionals, they are available for all your private corporate and media events.
Dole: Along with the delicious eats provided by Flame Deal Events and Catering guests munched on free samples of Dole’s newest product “Real Fruit Bites”. Tasty morsels of dried fruit dipped and yogurt and given a tasty oat coating, make a tasty alternative to sugar laden candies and cakes. They were also on hand with brochures of the proposed “Dole Health and Wellness Center” a mammoth 70,000 acre project currently underway in California.
Vibrant Roja: Over the last few years it has been discovered that red wine, unlike appletinis, contains several beneficial antioxidants and can improve the quality of life for the drinker long after the buzz has faded, making it a perfect beverage for a wellness event. Partygoers were tempted with bottomless flutes of Red and white wine courtesy of the Spanish wine Vibrant Rioja named for the region in Spain in which it is created.
Most of the lucky media guests in attendance were given giant giftbags filled to the brim with spa quality products. The products ranged from heatable, cooling eyemasks to calorie burning shape-wear, I can hardly wait to get the reviewing underway. Spa week lasts from October 11th to October 17th and is the perfect time (right before the mad dash to start holiday shopping) to give yourself a little treat. With spa treatments at a major discount for the duration of the event, what have you got to lose but hours of stress and the end of summer blues. This was an extremely well put together event. I had a great time. The gift bags were bubbling over with items. I missed out on the food, but I did partake in the libations. I really enjoyed myself. 🙂
