Simon Spurr insisted that you don’t have to take yourself too seriously to be a gentleman with his 2012 Spring Fashion Show. The collection honed in on reorganized yet tailored British precision with contemporary functionality and a more naval approach to sportswear. The focus was primarily on the proportion, with subtle hints of newer trends that will entice and turn many eyes as men stride next spring.
Milk Studios was frenzy of the popular, fashionable and wanna be popular spectators. As we awaited the show’s launch, VIP guests including Ed Westwick and Sebastian Stan from ‘Gossip Girl’, Bryan Greenburg from HBO’s ‘How To Make It In America’, Carmelo Anthony form the NY Knicks and Andre Igudala from Philadelphia 76ers took pictures as our anticipation increased.
Simon’s design aesthetic takes its impetus from his English upbringing. In fact, British heritage is suggested in several pieces where the conventional taped seam production of a mackintosh is moved from the internal lining to the outside of multiple garments. The result is this really approachable gentleman that charms.
The sharply intersecting geometric shapes and colors used to create graphic patterns in the collection were brought about by the Naval ‘Dazzle’ scheme used extensively through World War 1. In fact, seeing how it all translated effortlessly on the suits left a huge statement that will be well received by every kind of man. Each of the designs boasted the finest Italian, English and Japanese fabrics which were particularly evident in the two toned suiting, trench coats with leather sleeves and the printed outerwear. Both leather-motorcycle jackets bonded with cork were my favorites in the collection.
