The Sapien Network announced the launch of a radical new business model that applies blockchain technology to a social media platform. In essence, the next generation of social networking. The Sapien Tribe is the world’s first sovereign digital nation, where citizenship is guaranteed through a groundbreaking and game-changing NFT Passport. With only a limited number of passports minted for sale, they are a hot commodity and available for purchase.
While students at the University of California, Berkeley in 2016, Ankit Bhatia and Rob Giometti (now joined by Teja Aluru) created Sapien.Network. The company reflected their deep concern for the role social media plays in intensifying polarization, aggravating mental health issues, and undermining the democratic process. As an antidote, they came up with a radically new business model based on blockchain technology that rewards protect, and inspires digital content creation. And, over the past several weeks, Sapien has drawn attention to the insidious nature of corporate-controlled and algorithmically-driven social media networks, confronting symbols of power with its own resonant symbols.
At the Cipriani event, Sapien unveiled the vision for a new kind of social network, one built on decentralization and privacy enabled by blockchain technology. In place of making money from selling user data, the platform puts the welfare of human beings and the planet first, empowering people across the globe to build collaborative communities of Sapien Tribes. Anyone across the globe with a smartphone is able to access the network through the unique NFT Passports, minted in limited batches and available to those interested in becoming founding members.
The Tribe also brought its giant seven-foot-tall statue of Harambe the Gorilla and ten thousand bananas to Wall Street to face down the iconic charging bull. Oh, and a lot of Prosecco!
