In “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka, One day Gregor Samsa wakes up to find he has been transformed into a giant insect-like creature. He goes through a process of isolation and neglect, consequently leading him to his early death.
An emotional and beautiful narrative about one’s transformation and the adverse effects that follow.
A beautiful and bold story ready to be told………enter the mind and the world of Sally LaPointe for Fall 2012.
A graduate of Rhode Island school of design, Sally is known for dressing Miss Lady Gaga in her signature modern feminine aggressive pieces. You could say she is the newest kid on the block that is recognized for her avant-garde designs. Only on her third season showing during New York Fashion Week, Sally LaPointe takes us on a softer side of her journey with her obsession with futurism and science fiction. This time she wanted to tell a narrative that was something rich and embellished.
This season, the born and raised in Massachusetts designer showed a mixture of pieces in pastel color palate, monochromatic, and at times playing with metallics and even blacks. An ivory ensemble opened the show that consisted of a pony lux cape, silk jersey body suit, and crepe trousers. A few other ivory ensembles followed. The model’s overall look is clean makeup with blood-stained red lips. Perfect to carry on through the softer yet structured looks of Sally LaPointe’s vision. Coats in navy and grey wool cashmere were paired with charmeuse trousers and cashmere dresses. Some coats were sleek with clean line detail while others were refined and deconstructed such as a gold sequin jacket which Sally named “Lazer cut kid skin jacket”. Sally also showed a few long sleeve satin mini dresses with an overlapping angular flap on the waistband. This look as much as the others gave a futuristic element but still stayed purely feminine.
The metamorphosis print dress was the most unforgettable of all, strong in shoulder detail but softened by chiffon fabric. “Harshly Whimsical” I would call Sally LaPointe’s Fall 2012 women’s wear collection.
