Thanks to male fashionistas like Kanye West, men’s fashion has become colorful, charming, and dare we say, quite femme. The Rochambeau s/s 2012 collection was the complete opposite of that. There were no funky-looking bow ties or bright orange suits. What we experienced at Rochambeau was gritty downtown New York street style. Rochambeau offered a simplistic yet refreshing take on menswear. The muted color palette of gray, black, and navy reminded us of fall. Sheer tops and leather cropped vests were the dominating pieces throughout the collection. Since skinny jeans have taken over men’s fashion, we loved that Rochambeau offered pleated wide-leg trousers with clean sharp lines.
They took things up a notch with leather-trimmed blazers, and pleated gauchos, and completed their looks with woven hats and long black beads. There was one look that kind of reminded us of the movie “Children Of The Corn” A white open chest long sleeve top with pleated pants looked as if the model could have been an extra in the film. All he needed was a pitchfork. Nevertheless, the collection embodied a casually sophisticated man who’s not over the top but pays attention to detail.
