Best Dish: We enjoyed all the food immensely but our standout favorites were the tender juicy meatballs and the succulent Pot Roast Short ribs. Both dishes are serious must have for red meat lovers!
Overall: Though we loved the old decor the new look and menu are grand additions to the Paramount’s tradition of excellence. The space may be elegant and well designed the vibe is comfortable and casual. The new Paramount Bar & Grill is well on its way to becoming a destination space for theater goers and the after-work.
We
We arrived slightly early for our reservation and sauntered into the Corso coffee shop for a light tasting of charcuterie and some refreshments. The brightly lit space is part of the $40 million renovation of the theatre district hotel. Once it was time for dinner we walked across the beautifully redone expansive lobby and into the dimly lit Paramount Bar & Grill.
The large dining space features a beautiful chrome bar and an array of comfortable seating options.
Once we arrived at our table we took in the new menu. The lite bites have been replaced with hearty home style options. We began with the light and tasty Serrano Ham plate. The thinly sliced smoked meat was served with artisinal cheese and an assortment of pickled vegetables.
Next we sampled the home style meatballs. These moist tender orbs of premium beef come drenched in delicious tomato based sauce and covered by a blanket of melted mozzarella cheese.
To accompany our first course we ordered a round of premium cocktails. I enjoyed the Manhattan and my companion couldn’t resist the Moscow Mule.
Our entrees arrived just as we savored the last sips of our beverages. In keeping with the theme of homestyle cooking we ordered the Pot Roast Short Ribs and the chicken pot pie. The short ribs are served ala carte and arrive with roasted carrots and onion that were likely roasted along side the beefy morsels. The tender short ribs are smothered in a home style gravy that is delicious enough to stand alone without the potatoes.
Chicken pot pie is the ultimate in frozen comfort food. I remember savoring this dish in my youth. The Paramount Hotel does it way better than Swanson ever could. The steaming hot dish is filled with beautiful chunks of tender chicken floating in creamy sauce with an assortment of fresh vegetables.
No dinner is complete without a sumptuous dessert. We simply had to try the Red velvet Cake and Ice Box Pie. The thick slice of cake is served with light cream cheese frosting.
The Ice Box cake dates back to World War 1. It was a popular treat due to its simple assembly and use of prepackaged ingredients. Paramount’s version includes a generous helping of chocolate wafer cookies with a drizzle of salted caramel topped with peanuts for added crunch.
From start to finish dinner at the Paramount is a welcoming and enjoyable treat. Whether you are visiting New York or simply headed for a night out in your hometown the Paramount Bar & Grill is an ideal space for great food and a opulent atmosphere. We can’t wait to go back!
