Rooftops are an integral part of summer in New York. Its away from the never-ending symphony of New York City traffic and the best place to soak in the view of our fair city. A rooftop is, even more, amazing when you add good company, great food, and exemplary service. The owners of STK Steakhouse have created an oasis of sorts in the meatpacking district. The rooftop is as expected a seasonal space which features a full bar, exclusive menu and spectacular view of the Hudson River. The view is especially romantic at sunset. Once the sun sets the venue is illuminated by a series of floating overhead lights that mimic the stars the hardly ever appear in the NYC skyline.
My companion and I started our evening as most great evenings start, with a round of cocktails. At the advice of our lovely server, we opted for the Sangria and Bourbon Ice tea. Both beverages have a sweet refreshing quality that is perfect for warm summer evenings and are the most popular cocktails on the menu.
Once our thirst was slate we moved our attention to appetizers. We opted for a small seafood platter and the boneless ribs. The seafood platter is available in 3 different sizes, all of which feature tuna sashimi, shrimp, mussels and lump crabmeat. Each item on the platter was presented with a complimentary sauce that added a delicious boost of flavor.
The boneless ribs were up next and were a tender tasty treat. The ribs were glazed with a light sauce and served with a papaya carrot slaw and slices of ripe papaya, simply divine.
Before the entrees arrived we simply had to try the Strawberry Cobbler, this incredibly sweet cocktail is served in a graham cracker crumb rimmed glass and tastes like a dessert in a glass.
For entrees, we chose the skirt steak and smoked chicken. The skirt steak was served with 2 jumbo shrimp, a suggestion provided by our friendly server Erin and a chimichurri sauce. The sauce added just the right amount of flavor to the mouth-watering cut of beef.
The smoked chicken was a tender juicy dish, served with an asparagus and corn salad.
No dinner is complete without a great dessert, and lucky us we ordered 2. The aptly titled “Birthday Cake” is a pretty sweet confection that features oreo cookie bits and simply melts in your mouth.
Next up was the monkey tail, as visually appealing as it is delicious this banana Popsicle is coated in molten chocolate and is a tasty lightly sweet end to a great meal.
As far as steakhouses go, STK is far from the cigar smoking all boys club of yesteryear. This chic sexy space is a modern take on a traditional dining staple, offering a relaxed atmosphere, light cuisine and a comfortable setting for any event. If you do nothing else this summer treat yourself to a great night at STK, don’t let the sun set on this golden opportunity.
