Overall: Laid back atmosphere, good food and great cocktails. The right spot for a happy hour, a quick date or a good time with good company.A few short avenues over from herald square and the empire state building, lies a chic yet wallet friendly oasis. Heading into PS 450 the first thing to notice is the soft ambient lighting and high bar stools of the front bar area. Do not allow a full bar to deter you, the venue is much larger than it appears. For dining venture to the rear of the bar for table service and also access to yet another room for additional privacy. Upon reaching my seat I was delighted to hear an endless stream of 90’s hip hop and R&B as well as an eclectic mix of top 40 hits. The music set the tone for what promised to be a good night. While awaiting my companion I enjoyed a refreshing “Mint Iced Tea” this signature cocktail features: Woodford Reserve, Fresh Mint, Lemon, Simple Syrup, Cola. This is not your granny’s sweet tea this one packs some serious punch. Once my friend arrived it was time to get down to business. We started the night with the fried oysters. These flavorful little morsels are just right for a starter and wet our appetites for the next course
Next up I sampled the “Grilled Buffalo Chicken Flatbread”. Grilled chicken doused in Louisiana hot sauce is served on soft warmth flatbread with melted cheddar and jack cheeses and a generous sprinkling of green onion. Portioned to share this tasty dish is a must have when visiting PS450.
In between courses we sampled more of the cocktail offerings. I had to have the Bee’s Summer Cooler. Made with Jack Daniel’s Honey, Grapefruit Juice, Lime, Club Soda this drink has a sweet finish courtesy of the honey infused Jack Daniels. We also sampled the “Fallen Pear” this drink is made with Grey Goose Pear, St. Germain, Mumm Brut Rose and is a refreshing less sweet option.
We followed the flatbread with a “N’awlins Shrimp Po’Boy”. This massive sandwich served on a hero with rosemary garlic is an instant favorite. The fresh cut fries are a great addition to the meal and are truly addictive.
No good meal can end without a good dessert. We simply could not leave without having the fresh chocolate chip cookie dessert ala mode. There something so simplistic and yet so necessary about hot freshly baked cookie dough and a scoop of ice cold ice cream.
Overall, PS 450 provides its patrons with a fun laid back atmosphere, cold drinks and delicious edibles. In addition to the items we sampled, the menu also offers small plate offerings such as nachos and hummus perfect for sharing with a group of friends. PS 450, has all the elegance of an upscale lounge with the prices of a cheesy dive, you can’t lose.
