Overall: This place is great for a night out and a quick bite with friends. It can be a date spot but not for a first date, it can get a bit noisy.Union Square has a tradition of being a one stop shopping experience full of collectible and often wearable artistic pieces. Union Square is also home to a wide assortment of affordable eateries and unique bar-hopping experiences. Just beyond Union Square Park, lies a hidden gem. Little Town NYC is a small pub/restaurant with a localized menu of dishes from locally sourced markets, providing a unique and delicious experience. The space has a casual relaxed vibe. Patrons are invited to come right in and pick a table. The rear of the venue has chairs and low lighting and just a few tables for a more intimate experience perfect for a date night. The front features tall stools and a large open window, most of the tables are up front which creates are more interactive scene as diners are much closer to one another. The menus are presented on clipboards and feature a New York themed mix of small plates and sandwiches. The flip side gives you the beverage options which contains a variety of New York brewed beers, ales and ciders. My Companion and I started off the evening with drinks, he had one of their draft wheat beers and I opted for a Raspberry Apple cider. As a non beer drinker I was a little apprehensive but pleasantly surprised at how sweet and flavorful this was. To my surprise I actually finished all 22oz.
Next up we sampled a few appetizers. First up was the “Little town garbage”, though the name is a bit daunting the dish is actually a plate of chicken wings coated in homemade hot sauce, barbecue sauce and fresh garlic topped with blue cheese crumbles. These sweet saucy wings are well worth the messiness factor. The meat was tender and juicy with just the right amount of sauce, trust me finger licking is inevitable and encouraged.
After the wings we sampled the fried clam strips. These lightly battered pipin hot morsels were outstanding. Served with tartar sauce and lemon wedges, the strips were flavorful and just crispy enough, to have a nice crunch without taking away from the flavor of the clam.
For our next item we chose the “Little Town Burger”. This burger is made of 100% Angus beef and is served with a poached egg, béchamel and american cheese and crispy bershire bacon. Beware this burger can be addictive.
We then moved out attention over to the “French Dip Au Jus”. Slices of tender prime rib and melted swiss served on a ciabatta roll with a generous helping of beer of the month au jus for dipping.
Last but certainly not least on our list was the “Little Italy Sausage and Peppers” this was like a street fair on a bun. A tasty dish of sweet and spicy italian sausage slices with a topping of sautéed peppers and onions.
Sometimes you want a full 4 course chef inspired meal but most of the time you just want something tasty unpretentious and easy, that’s where Little Town NYC comes in. It’s menu offerings, pricing and central location make it an easy choice for a great night with good food and good company.
