When it comes to special occasions, sometimes a simple social media post and a quick text will do. Sometimes a night out is in order and that’s just how we celebrated our editor in chief’s birthday last month. Ordinarily, we’d be happy with some wings and a giant cocktail but this year we scored a reservation at Lincoln Square Steak. In the few short years since its opening, the opulent family-style eatery has been visited by several celebrities and garnered rave reviews. The menu is straightforward Steakhouse fare with a few family-style pasta dishes. The combination of seafood and beefy options made for a sumptuous Birthday feast for our favorite carnivore.
The Feast
Seafood Platter
We started off with the enormous seafood platter. This mammoth celebration of all things surf, featured Oysters, Clams, Lobster, Lump Crab and Jumbo Shrimp. The chilled seafood came with cocktail sauce, vinegar and horseradish for extra flavor. We kept it simple and squeezed a little lemon on our bites to add a burst of citrus. This is an exquisite platter and highly recommended for the table, to share. The Seafood Platter pairs nicely with a nice glass of red or white wine.
16oz Filet Mignon
The filet was a sexy full pound of beefy goodness, cooked medium. The juicy filet is served on its own with sides offered al a carte. The staff of expert servers was nice enough to slice and distribute the filet table side.
Truffle Mac and Cheese
The side dish options were plentiful ranging from fresh steamed veggies to onion rings. We chose the Truffle Mac and Cheese, a decadent creamy dish of mac and cheese baked to perfection and drizzled with oil. The sizzling mac was creamy and delicious.
Braised Short Rib
The Braised Short Rib is one of the few dishes that come with a side. The tender braised beef is served with a generous helping of creamy polenta. The beef was juicy and tender smothered in a mushroom au jus. Polenta is a smoother more velvety incarnation of southern grits. This luxurious side dish will make you rethink mashed potatoes.
Chicken Parmigiana
We’ve had Chicken Parm in several incarnations but never quite like this. The chef here grinds his own chicken before shaping this massive patty that is then breaded and cooked to perfection before being smothered in a delicious marinara and topped with cheese. The dish arrives on a pizza tray with a bowl of saucy pasta on the side. The chicken was superb, well-seasoned and flavorful.
Dessert Sampler
You can’t have a real celebration without dessert, so we ended our Birthday feast with an assortment of tasty sweets. We had Cannoli, Tiramisu, Cream Puffs, Cheesecake, Crème Brulee and Cotton Candy. Yes, you read that correctly, we had Cotton Candy! Excluding the Creme Brulee, the platter of desserts were miniature, offering us a small taste of what Lincoln Square Steak has to offer. While enjoyed the other desserts very much the Cotton Candy took center stage. We hadn’t had it in years and the sight of it conjured up so many joyful memories. Best of all the Cotton Candy is complimentary and comes at the end of every dinner service.
Lincoln Square Steakhouse is a chic 1960s style family-friendly restaurant. The restaurant is located a few steps away from Lincoln Center and Lincoln Square Movie Theatre. The140 seat dining room, as well as four private dining rooms and a stunning bar, make Lincoln Square Steak the perfect place to dine as well as to host parties of all sizes. The staff is friendly, welcoming and willing to go the extra mile for your celebrations. Our server Ron was especially thoughtful offering wine selections and checking in frequently. He even let the kitchen staff know we were celebrating and they presented our Crème Brulee with a candle and birthday greeting. As celebrations go Lincoln Square Steak made our Birthday dinner one to remember.
