For the past month or so cell phone fanatics have been anxiously awaiting the official LG G2. We had the honor of seeing the phone up close and personal at its official launch event back in August. The insanity surrounding the device was almost as awe inspiring as its great new features. When LG offered us a global unit for review we jumped at the opportunity. Though using a global unit prevents us from commenting on certain elements such as text messaging, call dropping and accurate battery life we can go through some of the cool features we were able to access with Wi-Fi and Offline.
The G2 is an innovative smart phone which according to LG was created with the user in mind. The device is one of the most user friendly devices on the market. Once you get used to the back button you find yourself wondering why every phone isn’t equipped with such a practical feature. The Back button allows for easier control of the volume and can also be used to turn on the camera. To activate the camera you simply press the volume key for two seconds then use the rear key to snap the picture. Your selfies will not only be easier to take but will look amazing with the G2’s powerful camera.
The camera is equipped with an OIS feature that reduces blur even when the camera is shaking. I took from the passenger seat while my driver drove down the street and the photo is as clear as if we had been sitting still. In addition to blur reduction users will enjoy the clarity of 13 megapixels and 1080p HD from the rear camera.
Another popular feature of the device is its crystal clear display. The device has an edge too edge 5.2 inch screen that produces high resolution images. You can expect brilliant color and high definition that can rival any television screen. I don’t usually view movies from my phone but the LG makes it easy and extremely clear. I was even able to enjoy several videos on YouTube without the buffering I get from my current phone. The HD display is ideal for gamers. Though most gamers rely on home based consoles many of us enjoy the occasional hand held games. I downloaded many puzzles and games but found myself addicted to Minion Rush after the first game. For those who don’t now Minion Rush is a massive file with intense graphics. I tried downloading on my current device and it not only took forever it would not play properly. On the G2 the download (over Wi-Fi) was easy and the game play an addictive breeze. The visuals are stunning and the colors are amazing. Game play was effortless with no freezing or complications.
As a gaming device and camera this phone rocks. The HD display, easy to use camera and rear button are reason enough to recommend this device. while we could only focus on the basic features due to its lack of a sim card or standard service please stay tuned for a more in depth review of the device, including multitasking, battery life and more!
