The word sexy instantly came to mind when I first held the Intel-powered Dell Venue 8 7000 series tablet. The beautiful machine was presented to me a few short days ago and I’ve barely put it down since. The venue is the newest device in the Dell arsenal. Its sleek stylish design is eye-catching but it’s what’s inside that truly counts. This tablet has:
- dual-core Intel® Atom™ processor Z3480 (up to 2.1GHz) 8.0 inch IPS display with FHD (1920 x 1200) resolution with capacitive multi-touch
- Intel® RealSense™ snapshot depth camera
- Intel HD Graphics (Imagination PowerVR G6400)
- 16GB memory
- Micro-SD Card Reader (SD, SDHC, SDXC, supporting up to 64GB)
- Integrated 2MP Webcam (front) / 5MP (back)
If you don’t speak tech that may just appear to be some cool looking numbers and letters. Allow me to break it down. The processor provides lightning fast internet service via Wi-Fi making productivity and playtime a breeze. The large 8.0 edge to edge display with FHD provides clear crisp color for gaming, videos, and viewing photos. The Imagination PowerVR G6400 is another plus for gamers as it provides a faster gaming experience. The expandable memory via the Micro SD card reader is a major win for anyone whose storage needs is well beyond the 16gb standard. The memory is expandable up to 64 GB.
As a new user of the device, I haven’t experienced all of its amazing capabilities as yet but I have had enough time to fall in love with the cool camera features. There are three sensors on the back, which allows for some cool photo effects. My first experience with the camera was a bright red notification that let me know I was blocking one of the lenses! This feature may sound interesting but useless to some but it is necessary to take advantage of the measurement tool. You can use the camera to measure the depth of space and even the distance between objects. This is a useful tool for judging distance or even decorating. In the right hands, it can be a fun yet productive tool. I also enjoyed the MaxxAudio app, which provides quality sound from the impressive internal speakers. The sound is clean and robust even when viewing YouTube or Facebook videos. I rarely watch videos on my devices but the screen on the Venue is so clean and clear I forget I’m watching a tablet. The colors are bright and the audio quality is superb.
If you are on the fence about getting a tablet I suggest you get to the nearest electronics store and experience the Venue 8. It is lightweight, easy to use and will provide you with endless usage. With this device, you can go back to using your smartphone for its intended purpose, and upgrade your entertainment and productivity all at once. Intel makes new and exciting technologies possible, like the Intel® RealSense™ snapshot camera technology in my Dell Venue 8 tablet.
