Contorno’s Restaurant has finally arrived in New York City and a few days ago we attended the grand opening at their new space, located at 30 West 31st Street inside the new boutique Holiday Inn Express. With the lights turned down low and the music playing, invited guests enjoyed wine tastings, as well as a selection of small plate, passed hors d’oeuvres from the menu developed by executive chef David Buico.
One of our favorites was the Old Fashion Veal Meatballs. Delicious, succulent, mouth water, and cooked to perfection.
Another favorite was the Grilled Zucchini. As a meat lover I surprisingly enjoyed this dish. The combination of english mint and pine nut pesto flavors and the crunchiness of the grilled veggie made me eager for more. This is a great vegetarian option as well.
Other popular items from the evening included Hand Rolled Ricotta Gnocchi w/ Wild Boar Bolognese & Shaved Dry Ricotta, Shrimp Al Pancha w/ White Heirloom Beans, and Spicy Salami and Tomato Jus.
Don’t leave the restaurant without trying the delectable New York Cheesecake! The dessert was deliciously creamy and a great way to top off our meal.
The open layout (with seating for 110) allowed guests ample space to explore, mingle and sample wines from around the world. Contorno’s General Manager, Marta Cisneros says, “There’s really nothing like us in this area and we’re looking forward to surprising people with everything that we have to offer— from our wines to our food to our general ambiance. We want to create relationships with our customers and keep them coming back for more”. We were pleasantly surprised. Contorno’s has also recently introduced a late night bar menu as well as a weekly Happy Hour Special from 4:30pm-6:30pm— all house wine, well drinks and beer are just $5.
Contorno’s restaurant is located at 30 West 31st Street, between 5th Avenue and Broadway. Visit them on the web at www.ContornosRestaurant.com.
