Somewhere
First up were the adorable Sojouk Lollipops. Thick slices of savory Turkish beef sausage presented in a sea-salt filled jar on “Lollipop” stick. The flavorful morsels were just slightly grilled for a bit of that smoky charred taste, delicious.
Next were the smoked lamb tacos. This was a Mediterranean take on a Mexican favorite; Three mini tacos flavored with pickled onion, feta cheese and a generous helping of paprika yogurt.
For our last small plate we sampled the “Austrian Goulash” crustini. This tasty dish featured warm tender chunks of beef with mushrooms in a rich paprika sauce served over toast.
The entrée course of our meal came up next. I ordered the pan seared silver hake and my companion ordered the short rib. The Hake is a thick flaky white fish and was served with nutrient packed braised kale, oyster mushrooms and a light lobster chardonnay butter. The searing added a nice texture to the fresh white fish and the kale drenched in the chardonnay butter was amazing.
My companion’s short rib was studded with Foie gras and topped with a green apple raisins chutney. Surprisingly the bursts of sweetness from the raising worked beautifully with the tender beef.
No meal is complete without a dessert and we loved the brioche bread pudding. It was just the right amount of sweetness and the cinnamon whipped cream was especially a nice touch. The dish reminded us of warm cinnamon toast, only far more rich and decadent.
Overall, The Quarter offers good food at reasonable prices. It’s location just a few short blocks from the scenic pier makes it an ideal choice for a romantic evening. The dim lighting and comfortable furnishings offer couples a warm relaxed space, devoid of loud patrons, and overbearing music. The best feature is you don’t have to wait until warmer weather to appreciate it’s charm, they’re open now!
